Gianna Jessen Asks Congress “If abortion is about women’s rights, then what were mine?”

“If abortion is about women’s rights, then what were mine?” Gianna Jessen asked a House Judiciary Committee that question today — and with good reason. Thirty-eight years ago, Jessen miraculously survived a saline abortion. This morning, she told her remarkable story to a House Judiciary Committee investigating Planned Parenthood’s practice of harvesting and selling the body parts of aborted babies — even from those that may have been born alive. Fellow abortion survivor Melissa Ohden also shared her own gripping testimony. Below are the video and transcript of Jessen’s testimony, including some photographs she submitted as evidence. Listen and weep, and pray that God ends this evil.

Transcript of Gianna Jessen’s Testimony to the House Judiciary Committee

Good morning,

My name is Gianna Jessen, and I would like to thank you for the opportunity to testify here today. My biological mother was seven and a half months pregnant when she went to Planned Parenthood, who advised her to have a late-term saline abortion.

Screen Shot 2015-09-09 at 4.19.06 PMThis method of abortion burns the baby inside and out, blinding and suffocating the child, who is then born dead, usually within 24 hours.

Instead of dying, after 18 hours of being burned in my mother’s womb, I was delivered alive in an abortion clinic in Los Angeles on April the 6th, 1977. My medical records state: “Born alive during saline abortion” at 6 am.

Thankfully, the abortionist was not at work yet. Had he been there, he would have ended my life with strangulation, suffocation, or leaving me there to die. Instead, a nurse called an ambulance, and I was rushed to a hospital. Doctors did not expect me to live.

I did. I was later diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, which was caused by a lack of oxygen to my brain while surviving the abortion. I was never supposed to hold my head up or walk. I do. And Cerebral Palsy is a great gift to me.

I was eventually placed in foster care and later adopted. I forgive my biological mother. Within the first year after my birth, I was used as an expert witness in a case where an abortionist had been caught strangling a child to death after being born alive.

Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, said the following: “The most merciful thing that a large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.” – Margaret Sanger, “Woman and the New Race”

Planned Parenthood is not ashamed of what they have done or continue to do. But we will have to give an account as a nation, before God, for our apathy and for the murder of over 50 million children in the womb. Every time we falter in courage as individuals and fail to confront this evil, I wonder how many lives have been lost in our silence, while we make sure we are lauded among men and do not offend anyone? How many children have died, and been dismembered, and their parts sold, for our ego, our convenience, and our promiscuity? How many Lamborghini’s were purchased with the blood of innocent children? The blood that cries to the Lord from the ground, like that of the blood of Abel. Not one of them is forgotten by Him.

I would ask Planned Parenthood the following questions:

If abortion is about women’s rights, then what were mine? You continuously use the argument, “If the baby is disabled, we need to terminate the pregnancy,” as if you can determine the quality of someone’s life. Is my life less valuable due to my Cerebral Palsy?

You have failed, in your arrogance and greed, to see one thing: it is often from the weakest among us that we learn wisdom – something sorely lacking in our nation today. And it is both our folly and our shame that blinds us to the beauty of adversity.

Planned Parenthood uses deception, the manipulation of language and slogans, such as “a woman’s right to choose,” to achieve their monetary aims.

I will illustrate how well they employ this technique with the following quote: “The receptivity of the masses is very limited, their intelligence is small, but their power of forgetting is enormous. In consequence of these facts, all effective propaganda must be limited to a very few points and must harp on these in slogans until the last member of the public understands what you want him to understand by your slogan.” – Adolf Hitler

RELATED: Survivor of botched abortion, Melissa Ohden, tells Congress: Planned Parenthood makes sure “failures” like me don’t happen

We often hear that if Planned Parenthood were to be defunded, there would be a health crisis among women without the services they provide. This is absolutely false. Pregnancy resource centers are located nationwide as an option for the woman in crisis. All of their services are free and confidential, and they can be reached by texting: “HELPLINE” to 313131. There is access to vital exams for women other than Planned Parenthood. We are not a nation without options.

Planned Parenthood receives $500 million dollars of taxpayer money a year, to primarily destroy and dismember babies. Do not tell me these are not children. A heartbeat proves that. So does 4-d ultrasound. So do I, and so does the fact that they are selling human organs for profit. Do not tell me this is only a woman’s issue. It takes both a man and a woman to create a child. And to that point I wish to speak to the men listening to me: You are made for greatness, not passivity. You were born to defend women and children. Not use and abandon us, nor sit idly by while you know we are being harmed. I am asking you to be brave.

In conclusion, let me say, I am alive because of the Power of Jesus Christ alone. In Whom I live, move, and have my being. Without Him I would have nothing; with Him, I have all.

They do not allow abortions past 14-18 weeks, 3-4 months. Additionally, the majority of clinics will now not perform abortions past 3 months even. She was aborted at 7 months, which is illegal now. So that part of the article is a non issue these days. Not to discredit all of her pain and suffering, her abortion Dr. was a sicko to abort a baby that late in the pregnancy, and its sad she’s having to suffer from that. A lot of preemie babies born at 7 months survive, 7 months is definitely too late.

      • Amanda

Previous comment in response to Libby’s statement that late term abortions are no longer legal.

      • Jeanie Stone

At any age abortion is wrong ! It just amazes me that they choose to make choices after the fact instead of before !! Shame on both parties for having no maturity!!

        • Tina

That’s not entirely true either, but yes I agree on most cases.

        • Crystallady916

Wait a minute here. Some ppl have tried to prevent pregnancy and the protection fails. Ppl try to condemn, but what about the kid who was molested by her dad, or uncle. Does she control that? Is it her fault? Should she have done something before to prevent it????

      • Aunt Helen

My niece is a Type I diabetic and the placenta for her baby did not form properly. The doctors delivered the baby at 24 1/2 weeks and 27 ounces. She was perfect and healthy, just tiny. Six months later, at the age of 29, my niece had a heart attack, precipitated by her diabetes. She can now not have another child, although she and her husband would have liked another child. That little girl is now 5 years old and is smart, beautiful, and quite precocious…and healthy. If someone is 22/24/26 weeks pregnant and doesn’t want the baby, why don’t they just deliver it and give it to someone who wants it?

        • Stella ibarra

I was lucky to be adopted before my birth by two anazing people. The truth is im one of the lucky few! Most children will just turn out becoming orphans or in the foster care system. Its sad but most people want their own biological child instead of adopting. Even when theres many many children out there who need a good home and someone to love them. In a perfect world there would be no abortions, no unwanted children left in the foster care system where many times are aboused by the people who are supposed to take care of them. Its a boken system! Have you or do you want to adopt a child!?!? I hope all the women here who say that the solution is adoption i hope you have at least looked into trying to adopt a child or plan on adoption. Most people say this but then dont want to adopt themselves!

          • Steve

I know of several people who would adopt several babies each. Unfortunately the cost and time make it difficult to get the children in their homes. Not to mention the huge amount of red tape.

    • Sharon

According to data, 18,000 late term abortions were performed last year. It can be done for the health of the mother, which is so open ended it includes anything. Look it up. Guttmacher institute or fact check.org.

    • You are not informed Libby they do it at nine months..You don’t want to hear the truth!! It is an issue today it goes on and on. Get out of that left way of thinking.

    • They allow abortions up to 24 WEEKS. Any abortion is murder.

    • Illegal where? Because all states have different laws some permitting up to the 5th and 7th month. And yes up to this very date.

    • Kristy Armstrong

Abortion is freaking EVIL. Anyone pro choice person does the devils work.

      • Sandy

And who are you to judge?
Judging someone else is evil and promoting the devils work

        • Sam

Judge? Your talking about taking another human beings life. A defenceless, voiceless, human beings life! If you question that over someone that kills a defenceless baby you need to re-evaluate the value of life.

      • Sarah

I truly hope you dont get raped by your brother. Because i would hate to see you turn to the dark side.
Also dont judge as judging is evil.

        • Im speaking for myself and others pro-lifers. We…..do not….believe in abortion for any……reason ever…, including being raped by our brothers. It is murdering babies and it is indeed evil and never should have been invented. Its not about judgement at all. Its about speaking up against the murder of babies!!!!

    • Shepherd

Exactly what day during the pregnancy does a medical person go from normal to being a “sicko”? I simply cannot back down to a number higher than zero. There just is no way to conclude a point of value other than the point of conception. If for no other reason, it’s a philosophical impossibility.

    • Sharon

So at 4 months it’s “ok”??? Not!

    • Medea

How is it a non issue now? Yes late term abortion is illegal in many but not all states. Therefore STILL AN Issue…. I had no idea that planed parenthood supported abortion I thought they only provided condoms, birth control, and help for after birth. That is my lack of knowledge and knowing this now disgusts me to my core. I pray for Gianna and all babies who survive abortions, clearly God has bigger plans for them.

      • Rebecca C.

So You’re saying the babies that survived abortions, it was because God had a bigger plan for them? So the babies that were successfully aborted, I guess God didn’t have anything bigger planned for them…only a short plan. But then that would meant that the women having these abortions were just following Gods plan right? How can you argue with God’s plan?? Please explain.
        P.s. Good luck

        • Sam

You obviously dont believe in God. Okay..thats your choice. When we speak of Gods plan..suffering is to be humble and being humble is to be wise. Something a lot being people now..LACK!
People are so consumed with the ‘ME’ or ‘I’ mentality that they lose themselves in thinking they are entitled to this and to that and choices they should not be deciding .
Now when a person passes..he or she will then be judged by God. Your resume here on earth will be looked over and you will be placed according to your doings. If you dont believe in this..you wont understand the bigger plans concept. If you..then why do you respoms to Libby with such a question?
          Good Luck!!!

    • Hannah

Unfortunately, it still is legal in Colorado. A man named dr warren hurn does it in Boulder CO to pretty much whoever wants one.

    • Samuel Hay

Having sexual intercourse is a life choice. Once you make that decision you opt for the consequences. You are given and responsible for another life if you become pregnant. There is no “oopsie” here. You did it, you made the choice, you accept the responsibility. Little is ever said about the murder of someone’s grandchild or great grandchild. Nobody ever considers their pain. If you can justify making my words in error, you are living in an alternate reality.

      • Sarah

Should someone really be forced to love with the consequences of rape?

    • Sam

Actually if in Canada it is fully legal literally up until the minute before you are born and it happens daily! Not sure if the states is much better.

    • tori

It’s kind of weird (and creepy if we’re being honest) to see one promote abortion. Do I want a child? Hell no, absolutely not YUCK nope no way! But, if I were to get pregnant, would I kill? Would I sacrifice my soul so I could have a life of convenience? Everybody on this planet has an opinion and I’m not here to change yours, I couldn’t even if I tried, but one day every person will know the consequences of their actions, good or bad.

    • Third term abortion is LEGAL as long as he mother’s life is indangered. A few phrases in the medical records is all that is needed. Educate yourself!

    • Derrick

You should do more research, I think you might find just how sick most of these clinics are.

    • There are children born as early as 6-7 weeks. They are aborted, rather, forced from the womb early.
There are videos of these children. The placenta would fit in your palm. The child the size of a thumb nail. The child has a heartbeat, brainwaves, a body. It is sometimes born alive, and I’m these videos they that are, are writhing.
There is no saving them. The doctors laugh while it’s movements grow weaker and weaker until it dies.
Every fetus is a child, Every mentioned past conception and at conception is a child.

    • Roseann

Money talks and no matter how many months or weeks the fetus is there should NEVER be an abortion at anytime – it’s a baby and a life!!

  2. Megan

“Planned Parenthood receives $500 million dollars of taxpayer money a year, to primarily destroy and dismember babies.”
How many times has it been stated that not a single penny of government money is used for abortion services by Planned parenthood?
I am sorry about the hurt she has gone through, and I feel that late term abortions should be handled with more regulation. However, most abortions occur in the first trimester. This is partly because the supreme court has deemed the beginning of life as when the child can be viable out side the womb (usually 22-24 weeks).
There is plenty to argue about if you are pro life without lying. Get your facts straight.

    • Theresa

How many times was it stated the world was flat???? Cite a credible source, as in not PP, to support your claim about taxpayer dollars not being used for abortions. I think the author has far more credibility on the subject than you ever could.

      • Ldean Jones

Are you saying that only pro-life or Christians believed the world was flat. In the Bible Isaiah 600 b.c. and Paul 60a.d. believed that the world was round.

      • Rebecca C.

Where’s your research stating that government funds are used to pay for abortions?

    • Science says that life begins at conception. Who do you believe? a group of constitutional lawyers or natural law?

    • If it’s viable in a petrie dish which is outside the womb. THEN IT’S VIABLE.

WHEN GOD BREATHED AIR INTO ADAM AND EVE THEY BECAME VIABLE…AND NEVER KNEW A WOMB EXISITED.

    • Open your eyes

Since when does the Supreme Court decide at what point life begins? The child may not be able to live outside the womb before then, but he/she sure has a pretty high chance of survival inside the womb. Just as we have a responsibility to care for a newborn baby who is dependent for help and nourishment, we have a responsibility to protect that baby while in the womb.

Does life only begin when the child is no longer dependent on the parents for survival? How about after birth? Without being fed and nurtured no baby would survive either. Since that baby wouldn’t make it on his own, is his life worth any less than yours? If so, maybe the beginning of life should be 16 years of age, since that’s when a kid can go get a job and be more independent.

  3. Max

“… and pray that God ends this evil.”
It’s human being’s job to rise up and end this evil.

  4. Trena

She gives a true account of what happened to her. But yet we still argue over petty stuff. She went through it people so it does happen a day planed parenthood. Let’s listen and not close ourselves off to the words of people who are trying to open your minds!!

  5. Steve Mac

The evil that men do. How long will the Lord our God endure what we do to each other? It is shameful indeed. The person behind this wonderful and brave young woman, dressed in a suit and chewing gum with his mouth open, seems unimpressed and oblivious to what is going on. Maybe he is representative of the general feeling of this country for the unborn. Thou shalt not kill!

  6. Angela Raymond

This is the saddest thing I have ever seen. It is a matter that has been heavy on my heart for many years. There is a back story for my reasons but I could share that at another time. All I can do is pray that at some point we can all agree this is wrong . Abortion should not be legal. It is MURDER!!!

  7. Here is a fact for you. I believe abortion is wrong, let alone cruel and nauseating in God’s eyes. Therefore if you want to support it that’s your choice. But I do not want one penny of my tax money going near any organization that has anything to remotely do with this disgusting act. The argument of a woman’s health? We are 50 years medically past that argument. But I do agree with a woman’s right to choose. She can choose to take the pill or keep her pants on. Her choices end there.

    • Rebecca C.

Where is your fact? I found nothing factual about your post. The only thing your post proves it that you are extremely uneducated. However I am interested to find out how you know that God is nauseated by this topic…

      • Sam

I can tell you how he knows God is nauseated. Because in the Ten Commandments it says thou shall not kill. You may not be religious, but if you have any sort of heart then I would think you would agree with this statement, religious or not.

      • Chris

Because all life comes from God. The Bible says before you were formed in your mothers womb I knew you. No one, regardless of circumstance or excuse has that right to take that life away.

  8. Maira

“Planned Parenthood uses deception, the manipulation of language and slogans, such as “a woman’s right to choose,” to achieve their monetary aims.

    Hmm… sounds JUST like TRUMP’s technique 🤔

    • Rebecca C.

Are you saying that PP uses deceptive slogans to obtain government funding or to convince women to have abortions?

      • Open your eyes

        yes and yes. To both

    • Sassy

Exactly!!! This is what Trump has been doing.. not PP!

  9. Becky

Gianna Jessen you were born to change the world!

  10. Deb

It amazes me that with so much free protection out there that we as humans are stupid and rather have unprotected sex because it is to much work to be responsible. There is no reason for abortions. I dont think are tax dollars should be used for irresponsibility. Just saying

    • Nicole Anderson

Tax dollars don’t pay for abortions, get your facts straight. Also people abort due to health reasons also. Things are not always black and white

      • Barbara

If tax payer money goes to pp it most certainly goes to abortions. And while people abort for health reasons that is not the main reason.

  11. Been there

I live in Maryland. We have the most liberal abortion standards in the USA. Right now there is an abortion mill which provides late term abortions and up to partial birth! Don’t tell me it doesn’t exist, I’ve been praying outside of this rank building in the middle of a low income community for 5 years! AND…they provide free procedures- tell me, then, who pays for that???!!! Taxpayers do.

  12. Hkp

I’m not trying to be ignorant, but I’m curious as to why the mother was told to abort at 7 1/2 months. I didn’t see why she was told that. As powerful as her story could be it’s not if her mother was going to die giving birth. There is more missing to this story.

  13. uhh...

So many people are on here are saying stuff like “How long will the Lord our God endure what we do to each other” and “All I can do is pray that at some point we can all agree this is wrong” and, ““… and pray that God ends this evil.”
It’s human being’s job to rise up and end this evil.”

all of those comments connect your belief to religion. I know that not all people who are pro-life feel that way because of their religion, but over half of you do. and may I just remind everyone about separation of church and state.

I don’t care where you stand on abortion as long as you don’t try to create laws that prevent other people from having them.

  14. Andi

Megan, most women find out we are pregnant after our first missed menstrual cycle(approx.5-6 weeks after conception). A baby’s nervous system and spinal cord, including the nerve endings(which gives us ability to feel sensations) are all formed and present by the sixth week of pregnancy. According to Planned Parenthood, 89% of all abortions take place between week 6 and week 12 of pregnancy.
The babies in the womb from five weeks and older, are very much alive and “FEELING” during the abortion procedure, and the mother who aborted her child bears the scars of this brutal act.

  15. Seems everyone forgets about rape. And to those saying that you should just get a hysterectomy…um, how about guys get a vasectomy.? Plus, women aren’t allowed to get a hysterectomy or even have their tubes tied unless they are over 40 and/or have had kids. If men could get pregnant this would not be an issue. No one is forcing women to have abortions but you guys want to force women to not have a choice.

    • Becca

Less then 1% are rape cases

  16. Hearing stories of abortion survivors make me praise God all the more. For instance, my friend shared to us that her mother took 21 abortion pills when she was pregnant with her and her twin. (This was in the Philippines, where abortion is illegal and socially unacceptable.) Her twin died, but she miraculously survived. She was born healthy and normal. Now she’s a very smart mathematician taking up her master’s degree in Math. I praise God for her life, for your life, and for others who have lived to tell the tale.

  17. Rebecca C.

For all you God fearing people, here is an article with a CATHOLIC nun, read what she thinks, you “hypocrite pro-lifers” might be surprised.

In one simple quote, Sister Joan Chittister, O.S.B. sums up the hypocrisy of many in the ‘pro-life’ movement:

“I do not believe that just because you’re opposed to abortion, that that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. And why would I think that you don’t? Because you don’t want any tax money to go there. That’s not pro-life. That’s pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is.”
This quote applies well to many Republican lawmakers who continue to introduce/pass restrictive misogynist laws against woman’s reproductive rights. At the same time, the GOP works to shut down women’s health clinics, with a special vengeance towards Planned Parenthood (#StandWithPP). You don’t hear of these Right Wing anti-choice extremists adopting children from unplanned pregnancies or putting funds into sex education. But you do see Republican lawmakers cut access to birth control, which prevents abortions. You do see the GOP’s 54 attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and their $24 Billion Government Shutdown both to destroy universal health reform which protects the needs of millions of American children. And you do see Republican lawmakers cut government programs like school lunches for children and block government financial aid to families who are homeless and/or in need.

The goals of these so-called anti-choice/’pro-life’ hypocrites are not about fetuses or children once born, their agenda is about controlling women’s bodies and women’s futures. How great to hear Sister Joan Chittister, a Benedictine nun, define the pro-life/anti-choice GOP double talk so well. An outspoken advocate for women, Sister Joan Chittister is a lecturer and author of 50 books. Holding a Ph.D. from Penn State University, she is also a research associate in a division of Cambridge University. Other subjects of her writing include women in the church and society, human rights, peace and justice, religious life and spirituality. She has appeared in the media on numerous shows including Meet the Press, 60 Minutes, Bill Moyers, BBC, NPR, and Oprah Winfrey. You can visit Joan Chittister’s website at Joan Chittister.org.

There are a lot things that are not right in this world. Abortion is one topic, however what is right and wrong are different for every individual. Religion, how we were raised and economics play in this. We need to teach more at home as well as schools. Early education. High school is too late. I for one may not like abortion, but I don’t need anyone else dictating to me what is right or wrong. This does not mean I am not religious, I do believe in god.

    • Sam

Tina, if it was just about you, no one would care. But it’s not about you, it’s about taking life away from another human being that has trusted you to protect it from harm. It is a defenceless human being, with its own unique one of a kind DNA, finger prints etc. There will never be another human like it in this world. Ever. The destiny of this human is for it to determine, not anyone else. What if Einstein had been aborted? I do not judge the mothers that have been manipulated in to thinking this is socially acceptable and have done something they regret and now will painfully live with the rest of their lives, if they don’t end up taking their own. No one talks about the women who commit suicide in guilt of the life altering mistake they’ve made. But for those who are selfish, lack any sort of conscience, remorse and that continue to use this as an acceptable method, perform or promote and manipulate women into thinking this is socially axceptable and ok, there is a word for them. It’s called Evil, and is classified as narcasistic, evil and sociopathic. It is the lack of empathy for others, only being concerned for ones self. Would you viciously attack a baby and poor chemicals on it to burn it or how about chop up in a blender? So why is it ok in a womb? Ridiculous and sickening this conversation is even needed. If you want a choice then take birth control, use condoms and take responsibilities as an adult for your actions. It’s called growing up and having a f$&@ing brain. And if you don’t want it then give it to the millions of couples that desperately would love your own baby, more than you would. It’s sad to think a complete stranger could care more for your child then you could. Wtf is wrong with people. Stop being self absorbed and vain and for the love of God stop killing babies! It’s not ok. Its appalling and disgusting.

  19. RA

If abortions are outlawed, they will go back to being done illegally. Women will die from infections, possibly bleeding out before help can get to them, as will the unborn children you so much are trying to save. Is this what you want dead women and children

    • Linda

Actually it’s really bad for business for abortion clinics to call ambulances. So women do die, even in legal clinics. When women hemmorage many have to drive themselves or ask whoever brought them to drive them.

  20. Rebecca C.

Making abortion illegal will only increase the amount of dead babies found in dumpsters, hungry unwanted children in the foster care system, which no one is fighting for, and guess what…All of these foster children are abortion survivors!!! But nobody is standing outside these orphanages praying and protesting for their well being. You guys just want to talk shit and argue “I’m right and you’re wrong” “murderer!!” . Nobody wants to help or offer any solutions. Open your minds, obviously we haven’t solved anything this way.

  21. Bob

I like how almost no one in the comments directly addressed the article author’s premise. “If abortion is about women’s rights, then what were mine?” Almost no one DARED approach that philosophically, and INSTEAD many instantly diverted the subject to sub-points: how late her abortion was – oh, well that’s illegal now, move on convo.. Or took the convo to planned parenthood…etc. Why change the subject? Have we nothing to say directly to her central point here??

  22. Sassy

Those that oppose abortion I would like to ask you what you think women who want to abort their children should do.. those that won’t care that abortions are illegal and still do them? Should they use of the “home methods” such as overdosing on aspirn or doing an abortion with a wire hanger? Should they have a student perform the procedure? — Do people not realize that making it illegal only jeopardizes the life of the women.

I feel terrible for this women, but at the end of the day her mother did not want her. She did not care what would happen to her. She was born, and her mother chose to give her away. If she was not allowed to do an abortion she might have attempted to do it herself and would have died along with her unborn child.

Do you really feel so righteous that you would prefer women die along with these babies? With so many unwanted kids in this world.. why not focus your attention to helping those kids who are going from foster home to foster home? Why bring in more unwanted children into the world at the cost of womens lives?

For those who shame women for doing abortions.. you should be ashamed to think that you have the authority to shame anyone!! It is a personal and very very difficult decision. It is not like going to get your mani and pedi, so lets not down play what the women has to go through. Research what happens in countries where abortion is illegal and think about if you rather have women have those experiences.

Bob.. the fetus has no rights.. that is correct. The fetus is biologically 100% dependent on the mother. If the mother is dead so is the fetus. Further more making abortions illegal will not prevent them, this is the point the author is missing.. among the false statements she has provided. “A womens rights to choose” is not some conspiracy. It provides a safe option for someone who wants to abort the pregnancy of their own free will. No one is forced to get an abortions! In this country if you can’t afford to have a baby and you get pregnant you are provided with free health insurance and funding to help pay for the child once the child is born.

Sassy, I am replying to your comments at both 11:22 pm and 11:32 pm on January 28, 2017. I would like all women who want to abort their babies to have the babies and give them up for adoption instead of murdering them. Your argument implies that a desire to abort a child equals necessity, which is false. In most cases (other than rape), no one forced these women to become pregnant. They had choices before they became pregnant. Abstinence is the first and only 100% effective choice. Using protection is another option, but it does not guarantee that a pregnancy will not occur. If a woman chooses to have sex, there is a risk that she will become pregnant.

From a biological standpoint, life begins at conception. There’s not a time when a non-human is suddenly transformed into a human.

From a legal standpoint, the logic applied is extremely flawed. You are correct that a fetus has no legal rights, but that doesn’t make it morally sound. Fathers also have no legal rights concerning a child in the womb, which is ridiculous (except in cases of rape, when a father should have no rights). If it takes both a man and a woman to make a baby, then both should have rights. More importantly, the child’s right to live should supersede the inconvenience that is placed on the parents. If an individual murders a pregnant woman, then that individual is normally accountable for two murders (with a single baby), which is right. If the woman was on her way to get an abortion, then the individual is still held accountable for two murders. Even if the woman lives and the child dies, the individual can still be found guilty of murder, which is morally correct. The point of this is that the baby is not a human only if the mother wants him or her and property if the mother doesn’t want to keep the child; there’s no biological change based on the mother’s intent.

If your argument is that if someone cannot survive on his or her own to live, then you should be able to end his or her existence, you will run into a plethora of issues on that. According to your logic, people should be able to murder a 10 day old baby because he or she cannot survive without someone feeding and caring for him or her. The elderly and disabled often cannot survive without assistance. Someone who cannot find a job and is on welfare is dependent on the government for food, so they aren’t technically viable without the intervention of someone else. I’m obviously not for any of this, but your line of thinking is problematic because it simply makes no sense.

Furthermore, your argument that making abortion illegal will not prevent them is true, but it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t make it illegal. Rape, theft, arson, and some forms of murder are illegal, but people still commit these crimes. Should we make them legal because the law hasn’t stopped these crimes? We should hold people accountable for illegal actions.

Should I feel bad that sometimes a bank robber is shot and killed while robbing a bank? Abortion is robbing a child of his or her life, yet so many people think this is somehow justified because the child has to be in the mother’s womb for a period of time (approximately 40 weeks). It’s appalling to me that abortion is allowed even in cases where the mother has simply said that it would be inconvenient to carry a child to term.

I’ll address three cases that people often bring up. The first is in the case of rape. My argument is simply this: why would you punish one person for the terrible crime of another person? The child did not rape the mother; a man did, and he should be punished, not the child. The second case is when the life of the mother is in danger. This is a tough situation, and I’m not saying that it would be easy to endure this, but which life has more value: the mother or the child? I believe they have equal value, so both should be given a chance to live. The third case is when the child is shown to have a disability. Which disabilities are so bad that children should not get to live because of them? My answer is that every child should have the opportunity to live.

This isn’t a woman’s issue. This is a human issue. I stand as a voice for the voiceless because they do not have the ability to speak in the womb. When I go before God to be judged, I have enough to answer for, but I will be guiltless in advocating the murder of the most defenseless of those among our society.

I will leave you with this thought. The only reason you have a voice is because your mother opted to have you instead of aborting you. Shouldn’t all people have a chance to be heard?

You are so passionate about giving these fetuses a chance at life, but what if they come out and their parents are poor? Why don’t you and your kind support affordable healthcare, or free healthcare to these children? (Your orange overlord has gutted CHIP in his outline for the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.) Why don’t you support feeding them with food stamps and welfare?

Why do you only care about the child when it’s in a woman’s uterus?

      • Beverly

Wow! Well written. I am speechless. I would love for my 11 year old son to use your reply in a speech for school since he will be taking sex ed next year.

      • Amy

Alright then since you think you’re such a no it all. One, most women that get raped aren’t aborting simply because they’ve been raped. How would you feel if you had to look at your rapist’s face every day and try to care for it? They wouldn’t. That’s hard to imagine. When you look at your child you should not feel disgust. Yes, there is adoption, but so many children never get adopted. It’s expensive and there is a ton of red tape. My favorite of your arguments, the mothers life is in danger, yeah the whole point here is that she WILL die if she has the baby. There is no maybe, no chance, it’s a certainty. You have no choice but to choose the baby or her. The disability is also a hard one, some children are born and only last a few hours. Have you seen babies born with their half of their heads missing? It’s not pretty. I have. It’s terrifying and traumatizing for the parents. Some choose to carry the baby full term knowing they will be saying goodbye. Some people just aren’t strong enough to endure that and you can’t judge them for that. I’m not saying abortion is right or good. But honestly I would rather they abort than beat or kill an innocent child that has knowledge and has the ability to ask why me? What have I done to deserve my parents hate? Am I such a terrible child. I wish we lived in a world where adoption was easier and where people chose to give their child a good life instead of only thinking of their selves. But our world is not perfect and judging people for any reason is just pointless.

If a woman doesn’t want to have children then they have the right to CHOOSE to have a hysterectomy… Why chance getting pregnant.. since their choice of contraceptives doesn’t seem to be working and their only choice is to kill their baby

    • Chrissy

Than choose a contraceptive that does work. With all the options out there, you can find one
