‘Living That Nightmare’: Daystar TV’s Josh Brown Talks About Death Threat, ‘False’ Accusations

Josh Brown, who has been reviled on social media and accused by some family members in the Daystar TV empire of trying to molest his 5-year-old niece, has struck back in a tell-all recording.

In an hour-long conversation taped March 14, Brown, 43, asserted he is innocent of numerous accusations, including that he sought to view the girl while she was undressed.

“You would not believe what I have had to endure for four years,” he told Colleyville Police Detective Nick Garcia, the main investigator overseeing the “Baby Lamb” case. “Baby Lamb” is the pseudonym for the girl, now 9.

Josh pinned the motive for the accusations on Jonathan Lamb, father of the girl and heir apparent to the network after the 2021 death of co-founder Marcus Lamb.

Lamb’s widow, Joni, now heads the network, and has ousted her son from his previous position as Daystar vice president. His wife, Suzy, was removed as co-host of a program the couple hosted together.

Josh blamed Suzy for conspiring with her husband to get it all back.

“This is my life we’re dealing with over a job,” Josh said. “They’re using me to try and get a job and that ship has sailed and now they’re Hail Mary-ing. This is not right. This is not justice.”

Josh, who was accompanied by Fort Worth criminal defense attorney Mark G. Daniel, was the last of several interviews conducted earlier this year by Garcia. Of the three interviews, this one had the most involvement by the accompanying attorney.

Throughout the session, Garcia allowed Daniel to set the scenes and pose many of the questions that Josh then answered. Garcia also appeared highly sympathetic to Josh, producing a box of tissues and acknowledging that Josh was “struggling” when the latter seemed overcome.

Other interviewees included Rebecca and Jonathan (“J.W.”) Weiss and Silvia Torres Gonzalez, Joni’s housekeeper. Two months after the Brown interview, Colleyville police closed the case without filing charges, saying the child had not “made an outcry.” But if she did, police said they would reopen the case.

The closure allowed Jonathan and Suzy to file a Freedom of Information Act request for the tapes, which were then given exclusively to The Roys Report (TRR).

Jonathan and Suzy say their daughter divulged graphic sexual abuse to her mother in November 2020 about what “a boy taller than Daddy” had done to her. But after the girl talked with Joni about it the next day, Suzy says, she has refused to discuss it further.

Joni has said such a meeting never happened. Convinced the perpetrator was a family member, the parents say they reported the abuse to police but because the child refused to talk, the case went nowhere.

Although TRR didn’t reveal Josh’s name until last month, it has been widely circulated elsewhere, leading to what he described as a “nightmare” existence with at least one death threat. Garcia said he had already forwarded information about the threat to the FBI.

“It’s gone to a whole new level,” Mark Daniel told the detective. “He gets stalked at a gym, people taking pictures of him. He has a band in Australia he’s an integral part of for years; they’re now getting messages that how ‘y’all got your pedophile out.’”

Josh is listed online as the chief marketing officer for the Melbourne, Australia-based band PlanetShakers. He is also director of business development at Daystar.

By his telling, life in the Lamb dynasty was not a happy one. In 2016, he was the long-awaited son-in-law from Australia who married middle daughter Rachel in a glamorous fall Dallas wedding. He got swept up into a family drama involving the parents who, with their three children and spouses, all worked at the successful network. Then the patriarch, Marcus Lamb, died Nov. 30, 2021, from Covid complications.

Even beforehand, things weren’t that sunny. With J.W. and Rebecca, “I never really got along with them,” he said. J.W. “goes behind my back a lot to try and undermine me wherever he can.” As for Rebecca, “We started off great, and then things headed south. She’s got a lovely smile but beware after that because her story changes, too.”

He couldn’t resist a tiny snipe about his sister-in-law, adding, “She’s just not dependable. We have a live television show. I mean, if she turns up on time, I mean, everyone’s cheering.”

Kissing allegations

In their Jan. 21 and 28 interviews with Garcia, J.W. and Rebecca had made allegations about Josh improperly kissing Baby Lamb. The couple described two incidents they witnessed where Josh was “forcing mouth-to-mouth kiss.” So when Garcia didn’t bring up the incident 52 minutes into the interview, Josh’s attorney did.

“Okay, we had a discussion earlier about the issue of kissing this child on the lips,” Daniel said.

“Yes, definitely not,” Josh replied. “I have not kissed her on the lips.”

Daniel then framed Josh’s response, saying, “And when you’re kissing on the head or cheek, you’re doing so in the presence of other adults.”

“Of course,” Josh replies.

“You’re doing so as a tease or game with a child, and probably many times,” Daniel said, and Josh agreed.

Garcia then asked if the kiss was “almost like a fatherly, like affectionate thing, not an intimate thing, correct?”

Josh replied that it was “playful” and “certainly not intimate.”

Then, referring to the testimony of Silvia Gonzalez, Garcia asked, “What if somebody had said that they witnessed you kissing her on the neck and the face in a pool?”

“In a pool?!!” Josh replied. “No.”

Incident at Miramar Beach

During the interview, Josh also addressed a much-publicized August 2021 incident at a vacation house Daystar had rented for the extended Lamb family in Miramar Beach, Florida. But before doing so, he recounted an episode Daystar President Joni Lamb had mentioned in her public defense of herself and Josh last year, seemingly indicating that Suzy was imagining things at the time.

According to Josh, Suzy accused a stranger at Whole Foods of “looking at her inappropriately.” Josh said Rebecca recounted the incident to his wife Rachel during a meeting at Daystar. But after Rachel posted about the episode on social media, Rebecca called Rachel “screaming” and claiming she didn’t even remember the event.

Josh then addressed the allegation that one morning during the beach vacation, he followed Jonathan and Suzy’s then-5-year-old daughter upstairs. This was after Suzy told the girl to change into her bathing suit. According to Jonathan and Suzy, Suzy then alerted her husband, who found Josh with his naked daughter in a bedroom she was sharing with her then-8-year-old brother, Israel.

But Josh said he never followed Baby Lamb upstairs. Instead, he was seeking to amuse his 1-year-old son, Judah, and — at Israel’s urging — agreed to go upstairs with the boy to Israel’s bedroom to see a “city view.” The girl came upstairs with them, he said 17 minutes into the interview.

But when Garcia asked him two minutes later what happened next to Baby Lamb, “I never saw her,” Josh said.

“You never saw her undressed or changing dress or otherwise?” his attorney asked.

“Nope,” said Josh. “All I remember is just screaming and, and I’m thinking, what the heck? Where is this coming from?”

The “screaming” apparently came from Jonathan, who was appalled to find Josh with his naked daughter. Josh pantomimed for the detective how he was on the bed looking out a window while holding a squirming 1-year-old and nowhere near where Baby Lamb was supposed to be.

“To this day, I don’t know if she got changed or not,” he said. Instead, “I’m looking at the crazy guy going bonkers at me . . . and I’m thinking like, ‘you’ve lost your ever-loving mind.’”

(TRR has spoken to Israel, now 13, who says he doesn’t remember the incident.)

Everyone was called to a hastily-summoned family council where Josh found out he was the villain.

“It was very traumatic for me because I had gone from being the favorite uncle, not knowing any of this craziness, to now being accused of trying to look at someone getting changed,” he said. “It was like my world got shattered that day. It was, it was like getting punched in the back of your head with no warning.”

Josh claimed Suzy and Jonathan’s stories have changed several times in terms of details and who was in Israel/Baby Lamb’s bedroom.

“It’s unfair and there’s no repercussions for them right now,” he said. “I never touched her in an inappropriate way ever.”

Josh also denied Jonathan and Suzy’s assertion that their children once spent the night at Josh and Rachel’s house. But Israel has told TRR he remembers the sleepover well.

“Those children have never spent the night at our, me and my wife’s, house,” Josh said. “I have never spent the night at their house. However, Suzy did talk about them coming over and spending the night at our house. It never happened though.”

‘Terrible’ investigation process

After the 2021 incident, Joni and Marcus decided to consult Denise Boggs, an unlicensed pastoral counselor whom the family trusted. Given the severity of the allegations, Boggs brought in a licensed forensic counselor, Debbie Leonhardt, to interview Baby Lamb, Jonathan and Suzy, and Josh and Rachel.

This required the couple and their infant son to fly to North Carolina for sessions — a process Josh described as “terrible,” because Rachel was constantly having to pump breast milk while on the road.

But that was nothing compared with what happened when Suzy and Jonathan showed up at Denise’s office with their children, he said.

“Denise went to check on the kids, and (Baby Lamb) got changed in front of her,” Josh recounted. “Denise told me and my wife this … And I said, ‘Denise, you need all this counseling as well …’

“She’s like, ‘Oh, well this is, you know, this shows a lack of boundaries for the children and parenting and this and that.’”

At one point, Denise was able to effect a reconciliation of sorts between the two couples: Josh and Rachel and Jonathan and Suzy.

According to Josh, “And Jonathan was saying, you know how, you know he’s going to be president and all this, and you know, he feels like Rachel, you know, doesn’t accept that. And Rachel said, ‘Jonathan, I don’t want to become the president of Daystar. That’s a lot of responsibility. I just want to do my thing and stay to myself.’

“Everyone’s, you know, ‘Let me keep to my line.’ The next thing Jonathan says shortly after is, ‘Josh, I’m so sorry for putting you up through all of this. I’m so sorry.’ He starts crying. He asks if he can hug me. Well, he doesn’t ask. He just gets up and we hug, he sobs on my shoulder and then he asks if he can pray for me and he prays for me.

“And something on the inside was like, this isn’t over. And then the other thing on the inside of me was: How is Rachel saying she doesn’t want to become president got anything to do with your previous assumptions? And … trying to join dots that are not there about me?”

Jonathan and Suzy told TRR that this reconciliation happened shortly after Marcus told Jonathan and his brother-in-law J.W. that Leonhardt had cleared Josh of all sex abuse allegations. But as reported previously by TRR, Jonathan learned in 2023 that his father had lied to him: Leonhardt had not been able to make any assessment because Josh’s wife answered all the questions for him in their interview.

Jonathan said Leonhardt told Josh he needed to return, but Josh refused. TRR previously spoke with Leonhardt, who corroborated these facts.

But according to Josh, the family arrangement with Denise fell apart after Denise decided Joni should not be marrying her now second husband, Doug Weiss. Denise unsuccessfully tried to unite the children against the marriage, he said, and for a time, Josh and Rachel went along.

weiss

“We were played,” he said, “and I apologized to Joni and I said, ‘You can marry whatever you want. I’m sorry for, for being part of trying to stop you getting married to Dr. Duck,’” which is one of Doug Weiss’ nicknames. ‘“And by the way, Dr. Duck’s been awesome.’”

Josh fumed that all the allegations against him were being concocted by people who will not face consequences for spreading false rumors about him.

“This is absolutely ridiculous that somebody can make a claim like this, of this significance with this severity, with no factual, nothing, with no evidence, with no credibility whatsoever (and) ruin a person’s life and get away with it,” he said.

“Or, or best-case scenario, they get proven wrong,” he added. “And then just wash your hands and (say) ‘OK, good luck, Josh, with the rest of your life.’ I mean, I did not do anything and these guys get to walk in and just spray their venom, and I have to suffer because God knows what happens behind their closed doors.

“This is crazy. This is stuff you see on TV and you think, ‘That’s craziness. That would never happen to me.’ Well now I’m living that nightmare.”

  1. This is how a supposed Christian family acts? Like the typical family on Jerry Springer? Josh Brown made a poor choice marrying into the Lamb family.

    1. They made a poor choice in allowing him into the family. Unbeknownst to them he had been let go from a church in his country bc of his homosexual advances toward someone. I believe he was a youth pastor at the time. They should have been told.

  2. I haven’t watched Daystar in years so I don’t know this guy. I don’t get a good vibe from him in this “interview”. He spends virtually the whole time talking, talking, talking. Most of that is bad mouthing everyone – Jonathan, Suzy, Rebecca, Denise. Jonathan did this over WHAT job? His dad wanted him to have the company. He could’ve just gone along to get along until it was handed over. Then, there’s the poor me attitude about the accusation and the counseling. I am an abuse survivor so my instincts are usually pretty good. There’s just something about him that causes me unrest.

    1. It’s not a company. It’s not even a network. It’s registered as a CHURCH so they can have mansions listed as parsonages and cheat the government of real estate taxes! They are cheaters.

  3. This family puts the fun in dysfunctional. Wow. It’s difficult to follow the plot line. Since they are from Dallas and the name “Dallas” has already been used for a major network show, perhaps they might consider the name “Malice”?

    1. The Dallas megachurch scene was also the setting of the book “Good Christian Bitches” and its short-lived TV adaptation “GCB”. More of them in the rich people’s neighborhoods than there are Starbucks in Seattle.

    2. I had a similar thought about someone breaking out the theme for “Dallas” because of how this resembles a soap opera.

  4. Why would he be saying “sorry” over and over after the bedroom incident, as witnessed by the housekeeper who had nothing to gain by confirming it? Why was the lawyer allowed to control the interview and put words in his mouth?
I don’t trust anyone involved in this family freak show.

    1. I cannot say I trust any of them either. Welcome to the reality of wealth and fame. The Brits have done a good job of exposing their own upper class. Historically, they all claimed to be Christian but shows for decades have been lampooning them for the exact kinds of things we see here. Jesus did not lie when he talked about how hard it is for any rich man to get into heaven. Christian and rich are contradictions. The N.T. does not actually say anything positive about wealth anywhere. Too bad so few bother to read their Bibles. This is obvious when you do…

  5. Alledgely,Daystar controlling the interviews.

Omg he blames them for the Down Under allegations, that were active, people going to that church pastor. With concerns for little kids girls and boys. Those alleged allegations are still there active.

Looking at the body language of all parties involved…

The awfully sad thing about the entire saga, The Body of Christ needs to cease putting their covering over cases and stop attempting to do Detective work. DS is only one Kristain group where it appears one way, but off camera its something else, allegedly.

Hummmm, body language, ever changing stories.

The Church needs Revival, that’s a certainty.

Prayers for the innocent children around the globe 🌎 🙏

  6. Josh Brown brought nothing to the table but a lawyer and a sob story. No receipts, no documents, no witnesses, no evidence, nothing. His only appeal was to emotion.

His conspiracy theory is all these people, solid adult Christians with good reputations and working full-time in public ministry, all decided they were out to get him, a guy with really no relevance for money or status or anything. It’s not as if he was the CEO of Daystar.

None of them have been terribly hurt by him to cause some kind of motive of revenge. None of them have criminal records or a history of deceit. So he completely failed to establish motive.

Meanwhile there are multiple people who contradict various claims he made, including eye witnesses, adults in one case, a child in another.

But the biggest mistake in the interview was his aggression. At the same time he tries to paint himself as the victim of multiple Christians who all suddenly went insane at the same time, as if he is a meek and mild saint and they are the dregs of humanity, he trash talks viciously. His spirit contradicted and totally undermined his testimony. He is not Mr. Nice Guy.

  7. Why was the detective even there…in my opinion, he was not interested in finding truth. This interview was a waste of time.

    1. Josh Brown is clearly deceptive! He did himself no favor with his accusing answers and idiot attorney!! Everyone’s to blame but him! Joni and Marcy and Rachel were easily fooled! This one is a “no brainer!” However, the police won’t do a thing! The little victim has been victimized over and over.
Please, stop giving to this Daystar soap opera!!!

  8. Daystar TV, has given new meaning to the term “Dysfunctional family”, easy to sees why pastors are removing themselves from putting content on their platform. Julie Roys has done a great job of exposing the spiritual corruption.

  9. Thanks Julie, but I personally think the whole thing needs to get dropped. Everyone in that family has lied and manipulated things so much, there’s no way to know the truth. For years I saw Rachel and Rebecca dress with short, short dresses on the worship team and on interviews, and Rachel with sparkling high, high heels looking like a street walker. Suzy did the same thing! She wore huge high heels and always posed looking flirty in photos with the family! Joni wants it to look like they are all one big happy family, but they are not.

It’s all he said–she said. Where is the hard evidence?? Joni would be wise to drop her Table Talk, and let the girls and husbands do their jobs behind the scenes and Joni can continue to interview people with dirty Doug with people who want to push their books and CDs. Even Jonathan is not without guilt. He wasn’t doing his job, was going golfing and that is not honoring to God, even if he was disheartened and felt cheated out of his throne. Ya’ll are a bunch of hypocrites and Daystar should be turned over to someone credible, or close down completely. The world does not need your crap! There are other Christian TV stations who are reaching the world with the Gospel. You are no longer needed! Liars and hypocrites!

  10. It’d be helpful if someone would summarize this saga, using bullet points. Start with Marcus’ seven-year-affair with a married woman who had children. Insert the whistleblower accounts by DayStar employees, who recollect Josh Brown’s flirtatious behavior with employees, Rachel’s spoiled demeanor as she bragged about her sexual and inebriated exploits, Joni’s pre Madonna reign and Marcus’ hateful rants. Juxtapose the stories of Jonathan and Suzy’s kindness and professionalism. Summarize it all, from start to finish, so that slick narcissists and their slimy lawyers don’t hoodwink weak Colleyville ‘detectives’.

  11. Julie, thank you for remaining committed to this story and others. God has decided to expose what these abusers have been doing, molesting His church for decades. There are deep, dark strongholds involved here. And these actors have aligned themselves with the powers of darkness. Ousting and snuffing out these intertwined roots will take all of us working in concert…praying, fasting, confronting, bringing it to light with our own unique clarion call. If God is choosing now to expose these cockroach infested rats’ nests, it means He wants ‘us’ to take dominion over these abuses with His help.

  12. WHY does the lawyer keep interrupting him unnecessarily???

If everything that happened at the vacation home was totally innocent, he would surely allow Josh to simply recount what happened??

But the lawyer raises suspicions because it looks like he doesn’t trust Josh to not slip up.
By interrupting, he gives Josh time to re-focus and only utter a couple of sentences at a time.

I just find it bizarre. Josh is not a child. Let him speak and if Garcia needs any details or has any questions, he can ask at the end, when Josh has finished his account.

Are lawyers normally that apparently controlling when an “innocent” man is interviewed?

    1. Yes, this is normal for criminal lawyers. They can interrupt and ask and answer questions for their clients during police interviews. Like it or not, it’s their job to protect their clients, what they are getting paid for. Brown has the right to legal representation. His lawyer believes he could win hands down if this case goes to trial. That remains to be seen.
