Brady Boyd, embattled senior pastor of New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, has resigned, elders announced at a service Friday night, according to KOAA-TV .

In a statement, the elders said they did not believe Boyd’s earlier claim that he didn’t know about Morris’s child abuse until recently and asked him to resign, which Boyd did Wednesday night. Associate Pastor Daniel Grothe has been named interim pastor.

“Recently, Brady has insisted that he was unaware until 2024 that Miss Clemishire was 12 years old at that time that Morris had abused her in the 80s,” the elders stated. “We believe this to be inaccurate. Brady also made statements in his public address to the congregation on June 8 that the Board of Elders know to be inaccurate.”

The elders added that “trust is the currency of leadership. When Brady recently told our congregation inaccurately that he was unaware of certain details regarding Morris’s past abuse, trust was broken.”

This news comes 14 days after El Informe Roys (TRR) first published evidence that Boyd knew at least 18 years ago that Dallas-based Gateway Church founder Robert Morris had sexually abused Clemishire from age 12 to 16. Despite this alleged knowledge, Boyd made Morris an overseer at New Life in 2007.

Morris is currently facing five criminal child sex abuse charges in Oklahoma. Last summer, he resigned from Gateway, one of the largest churches in the U.S., following allegations he sexually abused Cindy Clemishire for four years in the 1980s, beginning when she was just 12.

The evidence indicating that Boyd knew about Morris’s past sex crimes were included in court documents filed recently by Morris in his lawsuit with Gateway concerning retirement funds.

The documents note that Clemishire’s sister, Karen Black, met with New Life leaders in August 2007, as the church was considering hiring Boyd. At the time, Boyd was senior associate pastor at Gateway under Morris. And Black told TRR that she feared if New Life hired Boyd, Morris would gain influence over New Life, where she was a member.

Black said she met with New Life’s pastoral search committee and told them all the details about Morris’s sexual abuse of her sister in the 1980s. That committee included both lay and staff leaders at New Life, including current New Life executive pastors Lance Coles and Brian Newberg.

The committee reached out immediately to Gateway elders, Boyd said in a message to his congregation Sunday, June 8. Boyd said the elders confirmed to the committee that the allegations about Morris were true but claimed the matter had been reported and Morris had been restored.

At the time of the search committee’s 2007 inquiry, Boyd was an elder at Gateway. Despite this, Boyd told TRR he did not know about Morris’s child abuse 18 years ago.

He also denied ever receiving an August 2007 email included in Morris’s court documents that was addressed to Boyd and several other Gateway elders from Elder Tom Lane. The letter detailed a meeting of Gateway elders, Morris, and a lawyer regarding how to respond to Black’s disclosure to New Life’s search committee.

When asked how he could miss the crucial email, Boyd told TRR, “It was a crazy season.”

In Morris’s court documents, he also claimed that he told all the Gateway elders details of his child abuse in 2005 and 2007, when Boyd served on the board. Exhibits in Morris’s filing included emails between certain Gateway elders and lawyers in 2005 and 2007, corroborating this claim.

New Life proceeded to hire Boyd in 2007 and made Morris an overseer at the church.

Addressing the allegations in TRR’s June 6 article, Boyd told his congregation, “I would never, ever put a known pedophile in a place of authority in the church. Never, would I ever do that to you.”

Who predicted that Robert Morris would betray Brady Boyd after Boyd had covered his corruption in 2007 to end his pastorate?

I am no fan of Morris, but it’s a good thing he’s done here. His money should still go to Cindy though.

P.S. Can you imagine what Karen Black had to experience when she was ignored? Ugh. Awful.

      1. Quite a few comments have been made on multiple channels indicating New Life Church wanted a Gateway pastor and were willing to overlook the past to get Morris involved. After losing Haggard they needed the name.

  2. A truly independent third party needs to be called in immediately. Not a law firm that represents the interests of New Life Church and tries to minimize the fallout. I highly recommend that Boz Tchividjian’s law firm is hired for the sake of transparency.

  3. Have you ever wondered – if the gift of prophecy is as common as the charismatics preach (“God is constantly speaking to us”) – then how come so many dark sins and abuses among prominent leaders lie hidden for decades? Why can’t all the prophets in their church unearth these sins? We used to attend New Life Church in the early 2000s when Ted Haggard was pastor and like many Christians, I was new to charismatic theology and also the non-denominational movement, thought he was a great man of God who had all the right answers. I noticed that so many greats also attended. John Bevere who had the title of prophet, Andrew Wommack, founder or CEO of YWAM (forget his name), C Peter Wagner etc. When the Haggard scandal broke through an unbeliever, which caused so much damage to evangelical Christianity (and even politics; it led to Red state Colorado turning Blue), I was devastated but later had a nagging thought = how come so many self-declared prophets and apostles could not uncover this before the widespread damage resulted? I wrote a letter to John Bevere asking the same and received a reply from his secretary (I still have it in my filing cabinet for important papers) saying that God is always speaking to us, so why weren’t you listening? (or some such deflection). Any thoughts?

    1. People did have dreams, visions and prophecies about what was to befall Ted. They were ignored. One such warning was shared in the book “Mystery of 23: God Speaks” by Kelly Williams.

      1. @Lloyd I see that the book you refer to was published 9 years later, so I simply don’t believe it. It is simply a case of, “I knew all along…”

          1. @Joyce Mayer, Genuine prophecy predicts the future, also it is something that no one could humanly guess at. Look at the prophet Daniel’s predictions in the Old Testament. Please show me predictions about Ted that were actually published before the fact, and not several years later. One can say, “I knew that the winning Powerball lottery numbers for last Sunday’s drawing would be 32, 34, 12… and I was right” – then why didn’t you buy a ticket or publish it somewhere?

      1. @Pat Compare and contrast with apostle Peter in the case of Ananias and Saphira (Acts chapter 5). Sure, it edified the church, but not in the soothing and gentle sense.

    2. Thanks for your response, but I have to say it dodges the real issue. If “God is always speaking,” why didn’t any of the self-proclaimed prophets or apostles see the Ted Haggard scandal coming? It wasn’t exposed by a prophet, but by an unbeliever. That alone should raise serious questions about the credibility of the modern prophetic movement.
You mentioned leaders like John Bevere, Andrew Wommack, C. Peter Wagner, and the founder of YWAM. Yet all of them have major theological and practical problems. Bevere and Wommack promote Word of Faith and prosperity theology, which twists Scripture and puts man at the center. Wagner was a founder of the New Apostolic Reformation—a dangerous dominionist movement built on elevating men to authority God never gave. YWAM has faced years of documented abuse and authoritarianism. These ministries aren’t marked by biblical servanthood but by a top-down pyramid structure that idolizes leaders.
Scripture warns us clearly: “Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed” (2 Peter 2:2). False teachers are often “lovers of self… having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power” (2 Tim. 3:2–5).
Even now, we see fallen leaders “restored” to ministry after short sabbaticals. As if God can’t function without them. Give me a break.
To be clear, I do believe the gifts of the Spirit continue today—but they are not common, and they never override the authority of God’s Word. When someone starts a sentence with “God told me,” I usually turn the other direction.
It’s time we stop elevating gifts above character. Scripture gives us clear qualifications for leaders (1 Tim. 3), and they don’t include charisma, visions, or book deals.
The fruit of this movement speaks for itself—and it’s not good.

      1. The biggest flaw in my understanding is, the preachers and pastors telling us of miracles, prophecies and healings *done through them* do not provide verification – witness statements, medical doctor statements or before and after reports (with the personal details redacted out for privacy). God himself provided 3 witness when Jesus was baptized to affirm that Jesus was sent. Both OT and NT specify 2 or 3 witnesses to establish a fact. When Jesus healed, he provided verification; “Stretch out your hand”, “Rise up and walk”, “Go show yourself to the priest”.

    3. (I searched just now in my filing cabinet but apparently threw away the letter long ago – this was about 15 years ago)
I had a follow up thought – this topic bears investigating.
How come apostle Peter in the Bible, was able to prophetically know the details of Ananias and Saphira’s deceit (Acts chapter 5) even though it was secret?
In contrast, C Peter Wagner (who had the title of apostle) and all the prophets who attended New Life Church (and this applies to other charismatic churches also)
could not for decades discern by prophetic means, the hidden sins and scandals going on in their church?
When these scandals are uncovered, it is usually by the victim going to the secular law enforcement or the secular meda or exposed by accident.
Can someone reading this, and who is a member of the church, please ask the New Life Church leadership this question?

      1. It’s really simple. The office of Apostle ended with the death of John the Apostle and Apostolic authority ended then. The term “apostle” (little “a”) comes from the Greek and means “one who is sent” or messenger. Today’s missionaries could be considered “apostles” (little a). C Peter Wagner and all this NAR/5-Fold/7 Mountains fellow “Apostles” are legends in their own minds, whose egos are fed by their Kool-Aid drinking followers. Which why Wagner could not see the blackness of these sociopaths’ sins until they were told by others or read about their arrests in the news.

      2. @Aniil Philip because they are not real apostles or prophets. The truth is, these offices do not exist today in the same way they did in the early church (Eph. 2:20). The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) is a false and dangerous movement promoted by Wagner others like Bill Johnson of Bethel. Just look at 2020—nearly every major charismatic “prophet” falsely declared that Donald Trump would win re-election. Not one has been held accountable. Their prophecies are vague, untestable, and often self-serving. Leaders like C. Peter Wagner—who was called an apostle—along with numerous self-proclaimed prophets and teachers, failed to detect any of it. And this is not unique to New Life. Over and over again, scandals in charismatic churches are not uncovered through prophetic discernment but through secular media, law enforcement, or victims coming forward. Where are the prophets then?

The church needs to return to Scripture—expository preaching, sound doctrine, and churches led by biblically qualified men (1 Tim. 3; Titus 1), not self-appointed visionaries. I know people I love who are caught up in this deception. It’s heartbreaking to watch. But we must speak the truth in love and call the church back to Christ and His Word.

    4. I visited new life as a senior in high school – I was an avid note taker and was so excited to learn. I couldn’t get any notes from Ted, and when I met him, I wasn’t impressed. I felt weird about it. That was in 2006. A year later his scandal broke and it all made sense. I think people aren’t mature in their faith enough to speak up because they’ve been taught to gaslight themselves, but many see.

  4. WHY did he lie? If he had told the congregation that he made a terrible mistake in judgment and he sees that clearly now, they might have forgiven him. But these guys refuse to tell the truth and the cover-up always makes things worse in the end!
