Two more people have come forward alleging sexual misconduct by former Canadian megachurch pastor Bruxy Cavey, according to an email from his former church.

Cavey resigned in March as pastor of The Meeting House, one of Canada’s largest churches, following an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct. According to the church, the investigation found that Cavey “abused his power and authority” in a “sexual relationship” that “amounted to sexual harassment.”

Through a spokeswoman, the alleged victim called the misconduct “a devastating twisting of pastoral care into abuso sexual.”

Now, two more people have contacted the church alleging sexual misconduct, according to an email from The Meeting House que El Informe Roys adquirido.

Danielle Strickland, a former pastor at The Meeting House, said Sunday on Twitter that the new allegations were about “sexual abuse.” Strickland had quit “in solidarity with” the first alleged victim days after Cavey resigned.

Maggie John, chair of The Meeting House’s overseers board, said in the email that the church had engaged a victim advocate to “receive any concerns or allegations of sexual misconduct (including sexual abuse, sexual harassment, or abuse of power or authority) by a pastor, staff member, or lay leader within The Meeting House, whether current or historical.”

The victim advocate, Melodie Bissell, has now “received new allegations of sexual misconduct against Bruxy, unrelated to the previous investigation,” John stated in the email. She added that Bissell “has obtained permission from the two individuals who have come forward to notify the Overseers and the church community that the allegations have been made.”

The new allegations have not yet been investigated, John stated in the email. She also stated that the overseers “take these initial allegations very seriously and will respond appropriately as more information is received.”

John stated the church is committed to being “as honest and transparent as possible as we foster a safe and caring church community.” Another town hall is expected “in the next couple weeks” to share updates and next steps, she said in the email.

Katie Double, a spokeswoman for The Meeting House, told los roy Report that the church retained Bissell “as a first step in the board’s commitment to tangible next steps to foster a safe and caring church community.”

Strickland had previously called out the church for not bringing a victim advocate in. On Sunday, she said on Twitter that she was proud of the church for hiring one.

Strickland also stated the two people who have recently come forward did so “as a direct result” of a statement she shared on behalf of the woman who first alleged sexual abuse by Cavey.

El Informe Roys reached out to Strickland through a spokeswoman but did not immediately hear back.

The 56-year-old pastor confessed to sexual misconduct after the findings from the church’s investigation were made public, but stopped short of saying he was guilty of abuse.

Double, the spokeswoman for The Meeting House, said the church did not have any oversight into Cavey’s confession, so church representatives couldn’t speculate “on what he chose to include or the language he chose to use.”

Any sexualized behavior that occurs within a church context where one party has more power than the other is abuse, according to experts in clergy sexual abuse.

  1. And this is one of many reasons why a pastor might quickly confess. Because there are others and they want to avoid this coming out. And this is the reason why there must be independent investigations of complaints if the church wants to rehabilitate itself.

  2. Please use this opportunity to share with all women how they can safely report sexual abuse and misconduct by a pastor at any church. This would move the needle.
