Like many of you, I am mourning the loss of Nabeel Qureshi, a brilliant Christian apologist who passed away less than two weeks ago at the age of 34. Nabeel was a shining example of Christ, adored and admired throughout the Christian community, and his passing has been painful for many of us. But the legacy he leaves behind is impressive, and I am sure, will continue to lead many to faith for years to come.
I first became acquainted with Nabeel about two years ago when I was asked to moderate a debate between him and Shabir Ally on the campus of Wayne State University. I immediately bought and read Nabeel’s best-selling book, “Buscando a Alá, encontrando a Jesús,” which tells the story of how he came to faith in Christ after being raised a devout Muslim. The story deeply moved me and caused me to love Muslims in a way I never had before.
About a week prior the debate, I interviewed Nabeel on my radio program, en debate, and had the opportunity to hear more of his story and his passion to reach Muslims with the love of Christ. In his memory, I am posting excerpts of that extremely engaging and enlightening show. There’s so much this man of God taught us about living as Christians and reaching others with the love of Christ.
Growing Up Muslim
Nabeel’s story gives important insight into what it’s like to grow up Muslim in the United States. His experience also highlights how important it is for Christians to be able to defend their faith – something that the Christians Nabeel knew as a kid were unable to do.
How the Bible Differs From the Quran
Many Christians understand the Bible and the Quran to be analogous. But as Nabeel explains, that it is not the case.

What Muslims Believe About Jesus & the Trinity
Muslims believe in Jesus too, right? Not exactly. As Nabeel explains, their concept of Jesus is drastically different from ours, as is their understanding of the Trinity.
Nabeel’s Conversion Story
No doubt, the most inspirational part of my interview with Nabeel was hearing his conversion story. As I listen to this now, I am reminded that had this not happened, Nabeel would not be with Jesus now. Though embracing Christianity cost Nabeel so much in his earthly life, it gained him an eternity that surpasses anything he could have experienced in this life.
Importance of Reaching Out
This part of our interview really convicted me. As Nabeel explains, many Muslims are eager build relationships with Christians, but we often keep our distance. I can’t think of a better way to honor Nabeel’s life than to reach out and build an authentic, loving relationship with a Muslim today.
