Local law enforcement investigating the controversial death of Mica Miller have reached out to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in South Carolina and the United States Attorney’s Office for help, ABC 15 News has reported.
The media outlet said the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office announced the development on Monday.
The Roys Report (TRR) reached out to the sheriff’s office for more information but did not hear back. However, Veronica R. Hill, Public Affairs Specialist at U.S. Attorney’s Office, confirmed her office has been in contact with the sheriff’s office but wouldn’t further “confirm/deny/comment on investigations.”
Mica Miller’s death at Lumber River State Park in North Carolina on April 27 has been making headlines globally for concerning details surrounding it. Mica’s family members allege that John-Paul Miller was abusing Mica, and that Mica feared for her life.
Additionally, Mica and her husband were in the process of divorcing at the time of her death, TRR previously reported.

John-Paul Miller remains the pastor of Solid Rock at Market Common in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, but was released from all ministerial functions shortly after Mica’s death for “a time of healing, counsel, and guidance.”
“The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office has been in contact with the United States Attorney’s Office and Federal Bureau of Investigation in South Carolina since the early stages of the Mica Miller investigation,” the sheriff’s office reportedly stated. “Based on the information gathered during the investigation and jurisdiction reasons, the Sheriff’s Office has requested the assistance of both agencies.”
The sheriff’s office ruled last week that his Mica’s death was suicide based on a medical examiner’s report, 911 call records, security footage, witness testimony, and receipts from a gun purchase, TRR reported.
John-Paul Miller Accused of Having Sex with Minors
Meanwhile, more concerning details have surfaced about John-Paul Miller.
Miller’s first wife, Alison, claimed the pastor engaged in sex acts with minors younger than 16 and had an addiction to prostitutes, according to a 2017 affidavit obtained by the Daily Mail.
Alison also claimed that John-Paul was caught in an affair with Mica in 2015 while Mica worked as the couple’s babysitter. At that time, Mica was married to John-Paul’s then-best friend, Jeremy Deas, the affidavit said.
Public records show Alison and John-Paul Miller filed for divorce in 2015.
In her 2017 affidavit, Alison alleged that John-Paul Miller confessed to her and church staff that he had sexual encounters with women under the age of 16 at the church.
According to archived versions of the Solid Rock Ministries website, John-Paul Miller founded Solid Rock Ministries in 2006, when he was in his 20s. The website says he “holds several Bible School degrees and is currently continuing his education at a local Bible College as well as Horry Georgetown Technical College.”
In 2016, John-Paul Miller began leading Solid Rock at Market Commons. TRR repeatedly contacted Solid Rock at Market Commons for more details but did not hear back prior to publication.
TRR also reached out to John-Paul Miller’s lawyer, Russell B. Long, for comment but did not hear back before publication.
“Our marriage and my husband’s career were less than stable at the time, because at the time my husband’s affair was discovered, he had previously admitted to both me and our congregation that he had an addiction to prostitution,” Alison reportedly wrote.
Instead of removing Miller as leader, Alison claimed that church officials told the pastor to get counseling for his sex addiction. Miller refused to get counseling, which caused many church members to leave.
“When he refused, the majority of our church left the congregation,” Alison reportedly stated in the affidavit. “His marital misconduct not only destroyed my marriage, but also caused me to lose my church family and income, along with severely damaging the relationship between the defendant and our children.”
In one of the latest accusations against the pastor, the publication NewsNation unearthed an email from the pastor where he confessed to posting a topless photo of Mica Miller on social media, TRR reported.
“I’m sorry for putting a picture of you on the internet,” he said in the email. “It was for less than one hour and immediately taken down. I was hurt that you are telling everyone horrible intimate details of my past sin, and I just wanted to try and hurt you. Please forgive me. It was evil of me to do that.”
Court documents have also come to light that show Mica accused the pastor of grooming her for years and stealing her car.
John-Paul Miller’s attorney, Long, refuted the claims that Mica was groomed by her husband in a statement last week. Long called the suggestions that the pastor was involved in Mica’s death “unfounded rumors and false accusations.”

Where are the men in his church? Why is nobody standing up and removing this man from his pulpit?
How can you sit down every Sunday and listen to this adulterous sex addict preach while knowing that he cheated on his first wife with his best-friends wife?
You will know them by their fruit brothers and sisters. There are no grapes to be found among thorn bushes.
You’re right!! My first thought while reading this article was, “How in the world is this guy still getting paid to be a preacher?” It must take an enormous amount of narcissism and breathtaking quantities of pride to live the type of family life this guy has–even apart from the unproven allegations of his ex-wife–and still think to one’s self, “Yes, I am still qualified to lead a Christian church.” It seems that over and over again, American Christians will gravitate to style over substance in their leaders, both in church and in politics. It is truly mind boggling.
How ironic – Solid Rock Ministries.
Sounds desperate to avoid jail.
Mica Miller’s Pastor Husband Claims He Tried to Resurrect Her Following Suicide

Curiouser and curiouser I can say. The game is afoot. Suffice to say, I would not be surprised that this so-called pastor ends up doing the perp walk for death of his wife. Or it could be he did some federal level sex crimes (like across state lines, some type of Mann Act violation) with a minor and the statute of limitations has not yet run out.
Please reword the sentence that refers to “women” under the age of 16. There is no such thing. [“ In her 2017 affidavit, Alison alleged that John-Paul Miller confessed to her and church staff that he had sexual encounters with women under the age of 16 at the church.”]
Agreed. Females under 16 are CHILDREN, developmentally and legally. They are not women and calling them such elides the nature of this man’s alleged behavior. If this wording was borrowed from the source it should be quoted as such.
Good observation. I think the sentence could be re-worded to say “adolescent”.
The absolutely astonishing thing is that this obviously dangerous/amoral man is called a “pastor,” and people come to hear him speak! WHO is in that congregation?
Honestly, these congregants are probably everyday Christians just like you and I. It’s terrifyingly easy to be duped by one of these so-called preachers.
I completely disagree.
Being duped by words is one thing.
But there’s absolutely NO excuse for being an enabler to immoral behavior that would make almost every atheist I knew when I was unsaved BLUSH.
The fact is he left his covenant wife and five obviously VERY YOUNG children for a younger married woman he was having an affair with (as he has since admitted).
Marrying the person one is having an affair with is not REPENTANCE (a change of way, of direction) by definition.
And he was allowed to continue in his post: thus emboldened by every person who did not rebuke him and leave.
Predators don’t just groom their victims. they groom the entire community to believe them to be safe, kind, harmless- to not see what is right in front of them. they will be the most trustworthy, beloved, honest community member- until the truth comes out. they groom the parents to be blind to what the predator is doing to their very own children. the congregation TRUSTS him, because he confessed earlier sins, and was “transparent”- while he was also manipulating them with authoritarian rhetoric, so they felt like they couldn’t question him or trust their own intuitions about him.
this is what predators do. this is how they groom. Everyone thinks that if they were in the situation, or at the church, THEY would see it, and how could these people NOT see it?! but they wouldn’t see it, as this website proves with a new story every day.
Excellent point, Jen! It is often a systemic problem in these churches. Let’s not compound the damage by blaming the victims.
Whatever you want to call this organization led by this man, it sure ain’t no church. I can think of much more appropriate names for it, but are against the policy listed above. As I often say, just putting a sign up on a building that says church does not make it such. In this case this has signs of a cult. If this man is a child offender I can only hope he is soon arrested, charged and convicted.
Why? Why is this sicko the pastor of a church? He needs to be in a psych ward for a long, long time… or prison.
And the leadership at his church??
What are yall thinking.
From the archived Solid Rock Church website linked in the article Pastor John-Paul writes:
“We (your Pastors) are very transparent. We are the exact same on the platform of Solid Rock as we are at home behind closed doors. What you see is what you get. We love the Lord with our whole heart, but we’re not perfect. We pray that our lives of open truth and transparency encourages you to want more of Jesus. 2nd Corinthians 4:2 we refuse to wear masks and play games, rather we keep everything out in the open, the whole truth is on display”.
“Instead of removing Miller as leader, Alison claimed that church officials told the pastor to get counseling for his sex addiction. Miller refused to get counseling, which caused many church members to leave.”
“Church officials”. Not the same thing as leaders, apparently. How is it that these kinds of pastors always have weak elders/”officials”?
In his announcement (following his sermon) that his dear wife had been found dead and committed suicide, his reportage and demeanor suggested that he likely knew of her plan, and that she was simply walking out his encouragement to end her life of unhappiness and desperation.
He is totally disqualified from any ministry as a pastor in the future. If he can get his life in order, God could still use him, but not as a pastor. No “restoration!”
Ordinarily, churches in the evangelical/fundamental fold would reject men like Miller from the pulpit simply because of his divorce; per 1 Timothy 3:5, if a man can not care for his own family, he can not take care of the people of God. The lurid details now coming out–many of which should have been a lot more public years ago–really don’t influence whether he ought to be in the pulpit at all. They influence how severe church discipline ought to be, and whether (the allegations of sexual assault of minors from 2017) it ought to involve criminal charges.
Lots of bad things happen when we don’t deal with sins like this in a Biblical manner, as Paul did in 1 Corinthians 5 & 6.
Now I’m waiting for the 48 Hours, or possibly Dateline investigation. Interesting how many dominant males hide their sexual dysfunction behind religion. Old as time, really. Somehow they always think they can get away with it. Perhaps because many do.
I’m thinking “dark triad”.
Years ago this was happening and yet they kept him on even till now??https://youtu.be/hJikRyLkLq8?si=HSHbA-eZOJbD1FFg
Why wasn’t he investigated for statutory rape?
The police generally don’t like to prosecute that unless they’ve got something else. All in all, a 2017 study by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune found that only 20% of sexual assault allegations got a good basic investigation. Scarier yet, Minnesota is probably doing better on this than average nationwide, because the conviction rate was 7%, over twice the national average, according to FBI statistics.
Time to take Officer Friendly off traffic patrol and put him to work investigating serious crimes, because in this and a lot of other areas, too many police departments are basically “mailing it in”.
Can’t they put out an APB and ask women to come forward if they have been a victim of his sexual advances. Let the exposure begin and get this man in jail.
Is Isaiah 14:13,14 , ” …I will…I will…I will…I will…I will…” the life verse/motto for all these selfish, control-freak, spoiled brat pastors/”leaders” like Miller, Driscoll and others.
It’s bad enough that it is getting harder and harder to find a Biblical church – with a REAL pastor – but it seems like a bunch of demons-with-skin have invaded the church.
Is it any wonder that each year, for every 2 churches that start-up in the U.S., 3 close down?
WHERE ARE THE PRAYING PASTORS WHO STRESS EVANGELISM AND DISCIPLESHIP?
