During their time at Daystar TV Network, former Vice President Jonathan Lamb and his wife, Suzy Lamb, say they were spiritually abused by Jonathan’s mother, Daystar President Joni Lamb, and her close ally, Jimmy Evans.
In this special edition of The Roys Report, we’re releasing full audio of Joni and Jimmy Evans’ meeting with Jonathan and Suzy Lamb in which Evans claims Joni is “the voice of God” to Jonathan and Suzy.
Joni is the co-founder, with her late husband, Marcus, of Daystar TV—which has become consumed in a scandal involving the alleged cover-up the sexual abuse of Jonathan and Suzy’s daughter.
But Jonathan and Suzy also objected to Joni’s marriage to sex therapist Doug Weiss. And when the couple refused to read a viewer comment on-air, praising Joni’s marriage, Joni called them into a meeting. And to reinforce her authority over her son and employee, Joni brought in Jimmy Evans, the founder of XO Marriage and Turning Point Ministries.
During this meeting, recently reported on by The Roys Report, the two well-known Christian personalities provide blatant examples of spiritual abuse.
According to author Remy Diederich: “Spiritual abuse happens when people use God, or their supposed relationship with God, to control behavior for their benefit.”
For nearly 90 minutes, Joni and Evans claim the mantle of “representatives of God.” And when Jonathan and Suzy resist, Joni says they’re living in rebellion, and they’ll bring a curse on themselves and their kids.
In the interest of transparency, we’re releasing the full audio, which was recorded on July 11, 2023. It has been only lightly edited, to remove the name of a person who has been accused of child sex abuse but not formally charged with any crime.

How sad to hear these comments, let’s cuss and has you by the balls? Come on is this not a tax deductible ministry? Church? Jonathon you have the sweetest spirit and should not be forced to brag on Doug. He is not your father but a step dad. The Bible says provoke not your children to wrath. Joni you ahouldn’t force him to accept Doug. He doesn’t know him. Disagreed with Jimmy too. Manipulating came to mind. Suzy did seem defensive but l don’t know the whole story. Raping a grandchild is a large offence. That man should have been terminated. Not to disclose to Jonathon who wrote the letter. If they can’t say the name don’t read it. I don’t know that you really know the Lord. This is business and very sad. l am a follower of Katheren Kulman and she did leave. The Lord pulled the anointing. l wonder how the Holy Spirit was flowing talking about balls?
She is the voice of God at Daystar… so God is saying thru Joni, Suzy has Jonathan by the balls? So God is saying thru Joni, they treat Doug like shit???? That is crazy.
Everyone on the board should be free to express their opinions concerns etc. Joni is not a dictator and isn’t god! Once the board votes on a matter they should present a unified position to the world. A company can’t have everyone running around with a bad attitude. The board is too small. 5 or 7 might be a better number. If a boardmember can’t agree to a matter and they are a minority they can resign. Sure hope you can work things out. You are doing much good and we are praying for you.
I think Jonathon and Susie would have a successful ministry WITHOUT his Mother and her new divorced Husband, I believe God has closed a door and opened a window for them. I have lost all respect for Jimmy Evans and Daystar for bullying Jonathon and using God as a weapon. Jonathon is the most respectful young man at Daystar even while being manipulated and verbally assaulted. as a mother I could never do that to my Son. I believe Daystar’s days are numbered.
Why in my spirit do I feel somethings wrong every time I watch ministry now when Doug’s on?? I don’t feel she should of married him and for many reasons according to scripture and that’s how they felt as well! If you love your son why would you have him read something he’s not comfortable with shame on Joni and have some compassion for him he lost his father while you jump in a marriage and listen to other people to see if it’s right you should of got God’s word and not man’s! God will bless Jonathan and Suzy and Joni and Doug will fail just watch!
I feel the same. My cringe o meter goes off whenever Doug is on the show. And there are plenty of other women commenting the same thing. Mishandled. Joni is not a good boss, no respect for her. Johnathon and Suzy needed to leave. This was an untenable work environment. And that is even more so when you consider how the situation with their daughter was handled. No integrity. Done with Daystar. I’m also done with anything involving Jimmy Evans. He was on a slippery slope trying to justify the marriage in the first place. Not a good Christian leader.
I feel the same. Doug has used a seductive spirit to worm his way into Jimmy Evan’s favor and Joni Lamb’s favor. Denise Boggs was so correct in her letter of assessment of Doug Weiss. I can’t watch him. My cringe meter is off the charts when he is on.
I love Joni and was shocked by her halty attitude and crude language and Jimmy saying “like hell” you are. What is going on? He’s not allowed to simply question and with the most humble spirit? I’ve lost a lot of respect for Joni and Jimmy, and honestly haven’t cared for Doug since day 1. She should have married a ministry and not “sex therapist”
Johnathon and Suzy needed to be out of this ministry. It is toxic.
They are out. Watch Jonathan and Suzy’s video on YouTube where they say they no longer work at Daystar. Praise God for them! The were FORCED out by Joni & Jimmy.
Wow. If this recording proves nothing else, it proves beyond any shadow of a doubt that Joni LIED when she now posted a video saying Johnathan did all this just because Joni was appointed to take over upon her husband’s death rather than him. It CLEARLY is because he and his wife would not agree to violate their conscience about reading stupid comments that someone else can read. It was stupid to make this stand to fire them. And then we have the OUTRAGEOUS way Joni and her husband handled the abuse allegations. Should they submit to THAT wildly stupid handling by too?
This, and Joni claiming God told her “Pete” was innocent of abusing her granddaughter, are significant red flags. They also seem out of character. I watch Table Talk pretty regularly and Joni comes across as being rooted in sound scripture. Trying to protect Daystar’s image over the safety of your granddaughter isn’t sound scripture, neither is improperly lording over your son in an attempt to affirm your marriage. That’s not even mentioning the alleged assault of Suzy Lamb, which would bring the count to 3 red flags. First things first, can’t let the abuse allegations of the granddaughter slide like has been done, that’s too serious to ignore.
It’s incredibly sad to hear all this talk about submitting. They used this word a lot. Jonathan my heart goes out to you. You’re in a terrible position . You love your mom and I’m sure that she loves you as well. But your mother is getting some very bad spiritual advice. After listening to the audio recording with Jimmy Evans trying to meditate the situation.
I strongly feel that he is misguiding your mom and all those other so called prophetic counselors. Not everyone that calls themselves prophets are truly called to be prophets. True prophets are rare. I believe Joni is the one who is being deceived.
My prayers to all.
Jonathan was so kind, thoughtful and respectful in this conversation with his mother. To not even be allowed 24 hours to pray on it as he requested several times, seems so wrong to me. Jonathan and his wife are entitled to their feelings about the marriage and that shouldn’t preclude them from working at Daystar in my opinion. Personally, I could never break ties with a good and loving son over something like this. Just let someone else read the comment. I think Suzy has a point when she says you can’t fake something-let it happen naturally. If they hadn’t forced their hands and instead kept praying about the situation, perhaps they would have come around to trusting Doug’s intentions with more time. The marriage shocked many of the viewers, so I can only imagine how her children felt. Jimmy Evans didn’t help the situation at all. Jonathan is right-God speaks directly to us. I hope they stay true to their convictions and know they are coming from God and not the devil. The talk about witchcraft was unsettling. Jonathan and his lovely wife seem rooted in The Word of God and would not be easily lead astray and deceived by the devil and witchcraft. To speak that out onto their family seems unnecessarily cruel. I pray for reconciliation and healing for this family.
Imagine DR. PHIL dealing with these issues. I vote yes.
Absolutely agree with other commentators. I wondered at the time about how quickly Jimmy Evans dispensed with any questions about an unscriptural marriage by saying Doug Weiss had scriptural reasons for divorce. (Did Jimmy interview the ex-wife too or simply defend Joni after her haste to carry out ‘I want so I Will’ decisions?) Creeped out is the sensation I get regarding Doug. So disappointed with Joni, I thought ‘She could have any single or widowed strong Christian man she wants.’ And she chose this recently divorced character? She seems impressed that he has a doctorate. He comes off as creepy, insincere & lacking depth. Joni seems to have changed. If a wife is a reflection of her husband, then kudos go to Marcus. I liked who she seemed to be when she was married to Marcus & when she was a widow. Now her on-air words seem to lack authority & relevance. Her public response was a carefully calculated address to influence viewers. It threw Jonathan under the bus & ends with the cute & wide-eyed old Joni back for a moment, with her seemingly in vulnerable victim mode, making her pleas that viewers pray for her & Daystar. Joni sought to unite rescuing Christians behind her, while Daystar continues at status quo. Even before the expose’ Julie Roys presented with corresponding audio proof, I quickly became uninterested in listening to the words of Joni and/or her new mate.
Joni to Suzy: “You’re not called to be here for God”. So much for being Christian. This is more like a Jim Jones cult group in my opinion. Absolutely wild!
Yes! There were quite a few statements coming from Joni and Jimmy that stopped me in my tracks, but this was the BIG ONE! Wow. Lies are always exposed.
Jonathon at the end of the conversation: “Jimmy, I love you, Mom, I love you.” Those seem to be the words of one who in the midst of such an unhealthy relationship, so desperately wants to hold on to something that resembles a healthy relationship while acknowledging and accepting that things may never go back to normal between him and his mother.
She should have been the one insistent in her affirming love towards him. He sounded so broken while Joni and Jimmy seem more worried about their reputation than her son’s well being. It could have been handled much better
WOW! Cussing away aren’t we Joni? I’ve always felt a hypocritical spirit on you and I am apparently not wrong. So disgusting that a so called strong Christian and owner of a CHRISTIAN TV station talks like that! You should be ashamed of your actions!
This whole situation could’ve been resolved along tome ago..
1. Don’t give them any viewer feed back to read..@ Joni
2. If Doug is there on the set acknowledge him @ Johnathan
3. As a counsellor, you would know how to manipulate any situation presentes at you @ Jimmy Evans
Since this situation was exposed, the other children and their respective spouses was NOT present on the shows for this week..Wonder what woukd happen next week.🫣
To my knowledge Doug does not hold a real doctorate, a you tuber did a deep dive and it was discovered he’s not. I find it quite telling that Joni’s so called therapist husband has not come forth in defense her ! Yet Joni’s defending Doug at the expense of her only son! I was so grieved in my spirit the way Joni cussed during this meeting, (and she’s the voice of god!) called her daughter in law evil, and demanding that Jonathan handle her and forcing Jonathan to submit to her as though she’s God! Also, now Darkstar is going after you tubers and Julie Roy’s to retract, correct or remove videos! RUN don’t walk from all this demonic, spiritual abuse!
Of course the priority should be to turn the apparent sexual abuse of Joni’s granddaughter over to the police . I’d like to know what Joyce Meyer thinks about this. Praying for all of you.
I am deeply saddened by Jimmy Evans handling of this issue. after listening to the whole transcript it is evident that they twisted scripture and used it as a means of control. I do think that Jonathan and Suzzie need to leave if they can’t support what they are being asked to do, but the real issue of why they don’t like Doug is at the root of all these issues. and that is not something to dismiss. I have to wonder if he is ‘pete’ the one who abused their daughter. if so, then their convictions are on the money here, and those who are for doug should be questioned as to how they can support him.
Sadly we see a misuse of scripture and the word submit. In a business, you are often asked to do things you don’t agree with, and you do it anyway. But just because this is a ministry they feel the need to say Joni’s word is equal to God’s word, and that is very wrong. we all have the ability to hear His voice. And Jonathan might just have some insight they don’t, that is why we are told to submit to one another. They are abusing their position.
Joni threatens God will punish her son and his family if he doesn’t submit to her wishes. Maybe God is punishing her for bringing a “sex therapist “ into her family and bed! There is something to the fact so many of us feel weird when he’s on TV. How can she not see that?
So extremely sad that Rachel Lamb is posting things on X about Jonathan and Suzy’s daughter’s skin condition in an effort to redirect or imply that’s what was going on and not sx abuse. Extremely sick for Rachel to do this to her niece! How could a mother do this to a child, let alone her niece. Definitely, her mothers daughter!
first off.we need to be church people.. not tv people ..any body.who sets up a mega corporate..big money..entertainment media. is most likely..working for themselves..and not the lord..we need to remember..Jesus said..that we would know them by the fruit they produce..and yes I recognize..that there are inocent victimsin this..but we still need to stay away..from all these corrupt.psudo christian media scams..these people..bring the church into disrepute..turn off all this garbage..go to church ,,pray and read your bible
It always bothered me that they named it “DayStar”, because the only passage I’ve see that name used in the Bible is in reference to lucifer. I’m not saying Joni and Marcus named it after the devil, I’m just saying it always bothered me.
Isaiah 14:12
“How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! (Revised Standard Version)
Isaiah 14:12
How art thou fallen from heaven, O day-star, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, that didst lay low the nations! (American Standard Version)
good thanks..its obvious,, you know your bible..now lets hope everyone. catches on, that they ( daystar) dont . lets get back to church ,and drop the tv clowns..we will all be better off without them..its the way ,the word and the truth. not a soap opera
I think it is a little strange that she said Marcus liked Doug. DId they all know each other previously before getting together?
@Donnie, yes they were all friends! Doug and his wife Lisa we’re on Darkstar many times. I can’t wrap my head around how Joni could marry her friends husband, and she didn’t stop and think that he dumped
Lisa after 30 years and remarried so quickly. Granted know one knows what goes on behind closed doors and we will likely not know the true story why they divorced. Still wondering why Dougie hasn’t come out and made a statement in defense for the love of his life??? He’s been so quiet, perhaps rethinking the union? Just my opinion…
As long as you are tuned into Daystar, she is the voice of God to you … NOT!
Bad teaching will have bad fruit. I think the “honor culture” and idea of “spiritual coverings” are exposed as such here and in many, many, other places. It is time for the Pentecostal movement to reexamine a lot of this stuff that is not found in the clear teaching of scripture, but rather in the repeating of poor and even false teaching perpetrated by those who benefit from it.
Mike Mills – yes, this “spiritual covering” garbage needs to be trashed once and for all. Years ago, a man who was an usher at a church, called me at 4:30 AM to scold me and tell me I must get myself under the “spiritual covering” of the pastor at that church – he thought God was urgently prompting him to call and warn me that I must get under that pastor’s covering. Later that day, I had a powerful encounter with the Lord, when an F-16 flew low, directly over my house, the power and roar of it was so intense, and in that very moment, the internal audible voice of the Lord roared within me, saying, “I am your covering”, with strong emphasis on “I”. Many years later, the same man who had called me to scold me, told me how he’d left that church, and he went on and on about how terrible he felt that church and that pastor was.
God is indeed my one and only spiritual covering, and everyone else’s who submits to Him.
As bad as this whole thing was, keep in mind that two people knew they were being recorded and were likely on their best behavior. That is not to excuse the other two. If you listen to Evans speak about marriage, this exposes what he really thinks “submission” means. According to him, he has been teaching about marriage for 41 years, so he knows more about it that you, (God has gifted him such). Therefore he is not to be questioned, since he knows more and has been ordained by God. I dare say with less experience and just the word of God (and the same anointing every believer receives upon salvation) I can say without hesitation that the dude is whackdoodle in his theology on submission.
Unfortunately this type of spiritual abuse happens ALL THE TIME. Even in much smaller “ministries”. Most of the abusers are never exposed and/or the victims are not believed. I find everything that came out of Joni and Jimmy’s mouth repulsive. Especially trying to pit Jonathan and Suzy against each other. If you ask me, I would say that Jonathan and Suzy are not the ones who have to worry about “hell to pay”.
