Grammy Award-winning rap artist Lecrae posted that he cried tears of joy this past Sunday, when his daughter decided to take the plunge and be baptized at their local church.

“Today, my daughter publicly declared her decision to follow Christ, and it’s just now hitting me. I’m overwhelmed with emotion, (Dad is crying),” said Lecrae Moore, whose first name is a stage moniker.

Amaya Moore, AKA Maya, joined her dad on stage in February 2024 during the Grammy Awards in which Lecrae received two awards. “All I ever dreamed of was being the father I never had,” Lecrae shared with a picture of the two of them before the awards ceremony.

Lecrae is married to Darragh Moore and the couple has three children together.

He stated that he and his wife are “reflecting on God’s goodness and faithfulness.” He added, “As parents, we long for our children’s physical well-being, but more than that, I’ve prayed for their hearts to know and love God.”

The father of three spoke about fostering faith in his daughter while giving her space to make critical life decisions.

“I’d sit at breakfast reading the Bible, sharing the gospel, and pointing her to Him, knowing I can’t change my baby girl’s heart—only God can. All I could do was serve, pray, and trust in His timing,” he wrote. “And He’s faithful!!! I’m beyond grateful because my Heavenly Father is far greater than I could ever be.”

Co-founder of Reach Records and a best-selling recording artist, Lecrae has recounted his journey of faith and deconstruction most recently in a memoir, I Am Restored: How I Lost My Religion But Found My Faith.

The last album Lecrae released was Church Clothes 4, released in 2022, and the album’s two Grammy wins bring his total to four. In mid-January, the artist released a single “King David” which features Trip Lee, Jackie Hill Perry, and Alexxander.

He’s also been releasing episodes of his podcastThe Deep End with Lecrae, where he hosts guests and no topic is off limits.

Lecrae posted recently that he’s is a season of “reconstruction” and new “music is on the way.”

  1. Praise God and may they be blessed. I have baptized both my teen daughters and it was one of the great joys of my life.

And… just before anybody chooses this news as occasion to comment on anything else about Lecrae: Maybe just don’t. It’s cool. Take a breath. You can dislike or disagree or whatever about someone and still just let news of their daughter’s baptism go out without comment.
