During their time at Daystar, former Vice President Jonathan Lamb and his wife, Suzy Lamb, say they were repeatedly spiritually abused and bullied by Jonathan’s mother, Daystar President Joni Lamb, and her allies.
Most blatantly, they say, Joni “ambushed” the couple by bringing in Christian heavy-hitter Jimmy Evans, founder of XO Marriage, for a meeting on July 11, 2023. Not only did Joni shame her son by telling him his wife had him “by the balls,” but Evans pressured Jonathan to submit to his mother, claiming she had godlike authority.
“Submission means she is the voice of God to you . . .” Evans told Jonathan and Suzy on a recording the couple gave to The Roys Report (TRR).
“I’m sorry. Can you clarify?” Jonathan asked. “She’s the voice of God to me?”
“She’s the voice of God to you,” Evans said.

“So, I can’t hear from God? I have to hear from her?” Jonathan asked.
“Outside of Daystar,” Evans replied. “What she says is God in Daystar. This is the voice of God in Daystar.”
The contentious meeting came about two years after Jonathan caught a family member in a compromising situation with his daughter and accused him of molesting the girl. As reported previously by TRR, Jonathan and Suzy claimed that Joni and her late husband, Daystar Co-Founder Marcus Lamb, immediately defended the family member and declared him innocent.
This caused a major rift in the family. But a few weeks later, in late August 2021, Marcus told Jonathan and his brother-in-law, Jonathan “JW” Weiss, that an internal investigation had cleared the family member. (The couple found out much later about critical deficiencies in that investigation.) Then, in November 2021, Marcus died unexpectedly from complications related to COVID.
On June 10, 2023, Joni married Doug Weiss, a sex therapist and repeat guest on Daystar TV who’s no relation to JW Weiss. Doug Weiss had filed for divorce from his wife of 30 years on January 27, 2022, just two months after Marcus died.
And according to Jonathan and Suzy, the meeting with Evans in July 2023 was an attempt to bully the couple into publicly supporting Joni’s second marriage.
A family divided
According to Jonathan and Suzy, none of Joni’s kids or their spouses agreed with Joni’s marriage to Weiss. They all believed Weiss lacked biblical grounds for divorcing his wife, and that by marrying him, Joni was committing adultery.
Just two months before the wedding, a longtime friend of Daystar, Denise Boggs of Living Waters Ministry, wrote an impassioned letter to Joni’s family, urging them to intervene. Boggs not only knew Joni well but had also counseled Doug Weiss and Lisa Weiss just prior to their divorce.
Boggs wrote that she had voiced concerns about Weiss to Joni “but she refused to hear me.” Now, Boggs said Joni was “under a spirit of deception” due to Weiss’ influence.
“He is a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” Boggs wrote. “(H)e is of no caliber for such a high platform.”
She added, “Joni didn’t endorse divorce until she came under his deception. Using the Daystar platform, the enemy has successfully mocked the marriage covenant using one of the strongest Christian TV (n)etwork’s (sic) in the nation.”
Jonathan told TRR that he gathered his family to confront Joni two days after receiving the letter. But Joni allowed “each person no more than 60 seconds to share their heart . . . says all she sees from us is fear and rushes out the door to go fly off to New York with Doug,” Jonathan said.
After Joni and Doug Weiss were married, Jonathan and Suzy remained uneasy about the marriage. But on July 5, 2023, they were asked to read a viewer comment on air, praising Joni’s recent marriage to Weiss. The couple refused to do so because they felt it would give tacit approval to the marriage. Their refusal apparently deeply offended Joni.
This prompted the meeting with Evans—in which Evans and Joni equated Joni’s wishes with God’s, and Jonathan and Suzy’s opposition with Satan.
In his 2017 book Broken Trust, consultant and pastoral coach F. Remy Diederich writes, “Spiritual abuse happens when people use God, or their supposed relationship with God, to control behavior for their benefit.”
Jonathan and Suzy said this is precisely what Evans and Joni were doing.
‘We’re God’s representatives’
On the recording of the meeting, Evans asks Jonathan, “If God came to you right now—and He is—saying you made a mistake, would you correct it? And that’s exactly what’s happening.”
“Of course, without question,” Jonathan replies.
“But you’re not!” Evans says.
“No, but God didn’t appear. He didn’t speak (inaudible),” Jonathan says.
“God has spoken to you,” Joni interrupts. “He spoke to you through me. He spoke to you through Jimmy.”
“You’re not God,” Jonathan says.
“But we’re God’s representatives,” Evans says.
“We’re God’s representatives,” Joni repeats.
Joni and Evans also appeal to their ministry experience as a basis of their authority over Jonathan and Suzy.
“You’ve got 80 years of experience sitting right here talking to you,” Evans says. “It’s a spirit, Jonathan. It’s a spirit that you won’t listen—not just to authority, but to experience.”
“Did you pastor for 41 years and work with marriages?” Joni adds. “I don’t think so. You have about a thumbnail of experience compared to us.”
Elsewhere in the meeting, Jonathan inquires who has authority over Joni.
“What accountability does she have if she’s off?” he asks.
“Well, she has a husband. She has a board,” Evans says.
“I’m on the board,” Jonathan replies.
At the time, the only people on Daystar’s board were Jonathan, Joni, and Tom Calender, a lawyer and Joni’s longtime friend, Jonathan told TRR.
“Yeah, but individually, you’re not her accountability. Individually, you’re her employee,” Evans insists. “. . . She’s the voice of God in Daystar.”
“There’s no other accountability at Daystar,” Jonathan complains.
Then, Evans appeals to Scripture, saying, “Romans 13 tells us to submit to authority, all authority, because it’s established by God . . .”
Jonathan again objects, “No, but I’m saying, who . . . is her accountability at Daystar?”
“But that’s not your concern,” Evans asserts. “Your concern is to do what she says. And if you can’t, you can’t be here.”
Then, Joni interjects: “Tell him what the Lord told you about stubbornness, what it leads to.”
“What the Bible says, this was related to Saul, . . . that rebellion is the sin of witchcraft,” Evans says. “And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. And so, it equates stubbornness with being an idol worshiper. And the reason it does is because stubbornness is the worship of your own opinion. And that’s what y’all are doing. You’re being stubborn. You’re, you’re making an idol out of your own opinion, related to Doug (Weiss).”
Elsewhere in the meeting, Joni similarly accuses Jonathan of making his opinion “an idol” and warns him of the consequences.
“God wouldn’t be pleased with this,” Joni says. “. . . And you’ve opened up yourself, both of you, to demonic activity in your family and with your kids by your rebellion against me.”
Jonathan and Suzy object, saying it’s not rebellion.
“It is rebellion,” Joni asserts. “You’ll bring a curse upon you and your kids.”
At one point in the meeting, Joni accuses Suzy of being led by her feelings and points to the sex abuse allegations from 2021 as an example of how unreliable Suzy’s feelings are.
“There was an issue with (family member), and I’m not going to tell you that, because I know they wouldn’t want me to share it,” Joni tells Evans. “But Susie was completely convinced, and Jonathan was completely convinced that (family member) was doing something that he absolutely was innocent of. And it was a terrible thing to happen in our family. But she drove that thing for a lot. It’s the same thing. It’s exactly the same.”
The conflict reaches a crescendo 15 minutes later with Joni and Suzy going head-to-head about Suzy refusing to read the viewer comment.
“If I’m not comfortable, then I have to stick with my convictions,” Suzy tells Joni.
“. . . It’s not your right to agree or disagree with it,” Joni tells Suzy. “If a viewer has a comment about me or you or anybody else, it’s a nice comment. That’s a good thing to read it. . . . It doesn’t have anything to do with you. You’re reading a viewer comment.”
“I’m representing it. It’s a lie,” Suzy says.
“You’re not representing anything!” Joni replies.
“I’m reading it!” Suzy says.
“It’s not a lie! It’s not a lie!” Joni objects.
“It’s a lie if I say something I don’t believe,” Suzy replies.
“. . . It has nothing to do with you. It is a viewer comment. It’s not a Suzy comment. It’s a viewer comment,” Joni says.
“I can’t go against my convictions in that. . .” Suzy says.
“Don’t come back then,” Joni replies. “You’re gone. You’re fired. If you can’t read a nice comment about Doug, I don’t want you here. You won’t do ‘The Green Room’ (Jonathan and Suzy’s show on Daystar). You won’t do anything.”
After Suzy is fired, Jimmy and Joni turn their attention to Jonathan, asking if he’d read the comment, if asked to do so again.
Repeatedly, Jonathan asks Joni to respect his wishes.
“All I want to hear is that you’ll submit to my authority,” Joni says. “That’s all. I don’t want to hear anything else. I don’t want to hear about your personal convictions.”
Jonathan says he will submit to Joni. But when Evans asks if that means Jonathan would read the comment if asked to read it today, there’s a long pause. Then Evans says, “See, now you’re in trouble with her.”
Suzy objects to being made “some bad guy.”
Then Joni says, “You are bad, Suzy. You’ve got him by the balls and you know it.”
“Babe, they’re really scary,” Suzy says to Jonathan. “They think horrible things. I’ve got you ‘by the balls’? Who talks like this?”
“. . . You gave him a look,” Joni says.
“I gave him a look of pity, like . . . you’re cornering him. This is so evil, what is happening,” Suzy replies.
“No, what is evil is you,” Joni says. “What’s evil is you and the spirit that’s driving you . . .”
At the end of the meeting, Suzy appears to leave the room, leaving Jonathan alone with his mom and Evans.
Joni encourages Jonathan to “draw the line in the sand” with Suzy. “You’re going to pay hell for it but stand your ground.”
Jonathan tells his mother that he and Suzy are “on the same page,” but she appears to not hear what he said.
“. . . You are about to catch hell, so you handle her,” Joni says. “You’re her covering. Handle her.”
Then, speaking to Evans, Joni says, “This is going to be his Alamo, so he’s going to handle it and handle her—or not. But I can tell him, this will probably decide your leadership role here at Daystar, how you handle that.”
Jonathan fired from Daystar
After the meeting, Jonathan wrote in an email to Joni that he felt “trapped in an impossible position. . . . Things are completely out of hand. I never thought in my life I would be put in this position. We urgently need to meet about this matter.”
Joni replied that “for now, payroll isn’t being affected” and said she would let Jonathan know when she’s “ready to meet on this issue.”
Over the next 18 months, Jonathan and Suzy say the intimidation and threats from Daystar intensified, culminating in Jonathan’s termination from Daystar on Nov. 16, 2024.
We will cover the details of what happened during those 18 months in our next story.
TRR reached out to Daystar with specific questions regarding this story. Daystar replied that Joni would be releasing an official statement.
In the statement released this afternoon, Joni accuses Jonathan of “fabricating a smear campaign” because he “was not named future President of Daystar following the death of his father.”
Joni also accuses Jonathan of attempting “to blackmail his way into becoming the future President of Daystar” and released a portion of an email from Jonathan.
We remain willing to put this episode behind us, however, we also require security, transparency, and certainty about our futures at Daystar. To achieve this goal, we would suggest that Joni, Daystar, and ourselves enter into a new contract that clearly spells out my future role as President of Daystar, restricts the ability of Joni (or any other officer or director) from taking actions adverse to our employment without good cause (to be clearly defined), and without prior approval of a majority of the board of directors. In exchange for the agreement contemplated above, we will agree not to use, disseminate or otherwise publish any and all audio recordings that could be harmful or embarrassing to Daystar, Joni or our family.
According to Jonathan and Suzy, the commitment not to publish audio recordings was not blackmail, but a response to 13 stipulations Daystar gave the couple if they wanted to be reinstated to their previous positions at Daystar.
One of the stipulations asked for the couple to “agree to destroy all recordings of meetings with Jimmy Evans and Joni, and any recording of Joni talking privately with Joni and Suzy over refusal to read on-air.”
Jonathan added that his reference to his “future role as President of Daystar” was not an attempt to usurp his mother’s position. Instead, he was referring to the succession plan his father had outlined that “if Joni passes, or retires,” then Jonathan would become President.
However, both Jonathan and Suzy noted that these negotiations happened before Nov. 18, 2023, when Denise Boggs revealed to them that the internal investigation had not cleared their family member of molesting their daughter. At that point, the couple say they no longer cared about their jobs but wanted justice.

I felt sorry for her son and daughter in law. I felt they were threatened and the curses being put on them from her mom and Jimmy Evans. I feel uncomfortable with how his mom and Jimmy Evans spoke to them. I did not have peace about what I heard. I believe that having to read comments that they feel uncomfortable about should not be the reason they should be fired. They need time to process and like Suzy said they need time to see that this marriage is of God for themselves. That should be granted to them. Threatening them is wrong.
Jonathan IS on the board! He is the accountability which is what he’s trying to do! But neither jimmy Evans, Joni lamb, or the board let him get a single word in!!! How pathetic!! None of them should be in ministry until they can stop being bullies!!! We support you Suzy and Jonathan! Stay strong! The body of Christ is behind you!!
This is straight up SPIRITUAL ABUSE!
When you just can’t handle the spiritual abuse any longer you will cry out against your offenders, even if it’s your own mother. When it’s that bad you know there is some sick mental torture going on. Jonathon and his wife may struggle to heal from religious trauma syndrome. It’s a painful process to work through. Those in turmoil may feel like Jekyll and Hyde. Reconciling their love for God with a distain for the church that claims to be the voice of God. Many will even return to the same environment and submit themselves to the same abuse.
I am surprised by how crass and foul mouthed Joni is in private. The words she used in front of Jonathan, Suzy, and especially, Pastor Jimmy Evans were awful. Pastor Evans was so intent on chastising the young Lambs to be obedient to Joni that he forgot to admonish Joni for her crude words. I don’t blame Jonathan and Suzy for not bringing their children to the wedding. According to Denise Boggs, Joni had never approved of divorce and remarriage until Doug came to the funeral. Am I correct that Joni had a lingerie bridal shower? Ick. Were her daughters and Suzy supposed to see what their mother is wearing to bed? Doug is a sex therapist but this is all too much.
I agree Anita Kivi!! I was totally shocked with the profanity coming out of Joni’s mouth. And let’s not forget in that same audio, Jimmy Evans stated that Joni is the voice of god, and I know my lord and savior did not utter such filth. The scripture states what’s in your heart will eventually come out. Jonathan and Suzy, RUN. You can still love Joni from afar. Praying for J&S and their beautiful kids.
I was totally shocked by Joni’s language and abuse directed toward her son and Suzy! Jimmy Evans was a total bully!
I agree with Anita. Talk about a disgrace. Money talks here. That is why it is such a mess. And the only thing spiritual about the whole thing is that God is exposing the works of Satan. I hope Joni and the whole bunch repent and get out of the “business” of “ministry”. Including Evan’s, despicable!
I was thinking the reason Jimmy didn’t admonish Joni for her foul language is because it must be how she normally speaks when not on air. I heard several expletives. I don’t think she would have spoken that way so easily if she doesn’t normally speak that way. Maybe Jimmy does too, who knows at this point. Just my two cents.
Jonathan is a grown man , and should have gone to police about his daughter’s abuse IF he believed it happened. END OF STORY!
Same with Suzy and her alleged sexual abuse by the chiropractor, END OF STORY!
It seems like they did not want to lose favor from the ones that controlled money and power, that MAY have been more important at the time than reporting the sexual abuse they say NOW so important to report.
This back and forth power play
seems to be mostly about money, greed , power and lust on all people involved. Joni , Doug, and Marcus IF they did sin, need to repent, and make things right if possible. It is hurting the Church.
You are mistaken. As I reported in my first story on this scandal, Jonathan and Suzy reported their daughter’s alleged abuse to police the day after their daughter told them about it in Nov. 2020. Police closed the case because the girl wouldn’t talk about what had happened. But police reopened the case in 2024 when more information came to light.
Thank you for that clarification. It is good to hear that the case has been reopened. I have been wondering as a resident of Tarrant County, who lives 10 mins from Daystar’s HQ, if I should write the DA for Tarrant County and demand that they investigate all the lawyers pouncing on the Youtbers for alleged defamation because I think they are engaged in obstruction of justice for Jonathan and Suzy’s precious little girl. And thank you for your courage in reporting this. God bless!
That’s a great idea ! We should all start sending them letters and those getting them should send copies of the threatening letters. Also honor the boycott of Daystar and companies / “ ministries” advertising or running programming on Daystar .
Really?? You must have never been in the corner Jonathan & Suzy were in. The double-bind of having a personal conviction that you just want the time and space to work through in your personal relationship with God, while being FORCED to abandon that right or risk losing not only your entire family income but also your family, community and reputation. This is the clearest example of spiritual abuse I have ever seen with my own eyes. Thank you, Julie Roys, for exposing this. The saddest part is, while shocking to those who have never been behind the scenes in leadership in an Evangelical Christian organization, there is absolutely nothing out-of-the-ordinary about this meeting. It’s only newsworthy because Jonathan & Suzy had the courage to 1. record it secretly and 2. hand it over to reporters. I pray that God uses this story to expose all the darkness that has seeped into the Church.
From what I can find Daystar is owned by Word of God Fellowship Inc. As a non profit corporation it is my understanding that this is no ownership in the same sense as a for profit would have. Is there a board of directors and if so who is on this board and what are the by laws concerning the selection of CEO? If Marcus could simply name whomever he chose to succeed him was that in writing in the by laws or what gave him that power? The articles here make it appear that Joni has total control since Jonathon cannot get an answer as to who she answers to. As a VP and son of the founder wouldn’t he already know the answer to this question? I suspect there is still a lot of this story waiting to be told.
There was always something about Joni Lamb that did not set right and I couldn’t put my finger on it, but now I see it. Judgment shall begin in the house of the Lord and hopefully it is happening with Joni Lamb.
Denise Boggs’ letter is so interesting! She warns the children that Jodi had fallen for a spirit of deception, and how Doug Weiss would bring down Daystar.
The whole story is very weird.
Jimmy Evans gained a big platform the last years on Daystar. He has a lot to lose . . . he is not neutral in all this.
It sounds as if this internal investigation was meant to whitewash the alleged sexual abuse incident instead of exposing it. From all appearances, it looks like Marcus and Joni were trying to prevent a scandal that could lead to a downfall of their ministry instead of believing their own son’s testimony of what he saw and promptly reported to his parents. I can’t even put into words the betrayal Jonathan (and Suzy) must have felt by the Lambs.
The irony in all this… It sounds as if the Lambs raised Jonathan correctly and to tell the truth, no matter the cost. Joni lost sight of that… and don’t even get me started on Jimmy Evans. I’m so disappointed in him.
We need to pray for leaders of big Ministries, they are a big target that the enemy wants to bring down. My heart is so broken for all of them 😭 💔✝️🙏🏼🙌🏼
The entire Lamb family Loves God with all their hearts! They don’t try to protect Daystar as a business, but as a worldwide ministry, touching millions of lives!
God, Abba, You are a very present help in times of trouble! Have Your way, helping all through this❣️ Thank You Jesus❣️ Amen
Joni is a narcissist. She can’t even love her own son. She 💯 chooses self, money, ministry, men over her family. How disgusting.
Thank you for reporting the news on this subject . I am disappointed in this ministry the cover up over their granddaughter. I believe Suzy and Jonathan and it really is good that this has come out God is good because he exposing everything that is hidden in darkness. I don’t like watching the show anymore I was already having trouble with God because of my own past abuse .
Is Daystar a ministry or is it a business? If Daystar is to continue being a network, it will likely need to be sold. The current founder & leadership have exhibited they cannot be trusted. Like Gateway Church, Daystar appears to be a cash cow that is intoxicating, yet unwieldy to manage – especially by dysfunctional leadership. Ironically, Gateway & Daystar are run by a small group of individuals who are/were more wolves than sheep.
They are listed as a church not a ministry. They are protected under church standings with IRS. No disclosures needed.
First off God does not want us living married and alone. If one partner refuses to meet the needs of the other person they supposedly love. Where does that leave you? This is all a spiritual battle of evil against good. The focus must be on the welfare of the children and grandchildren. We are all intitled to our own opinions. I don’t see how my boss has the right to tell me I can’t think or feel that way. It kind of came across like your not old enough to hear from God or think for yourselves. Johnathan and Suzy stay strong for your family and focus on God. He must have an amazing future for you both. I truly pray for restoration and that your family will be made whole. Send Love and pray for you all💕
I’m wondering why Lisa Weiss, Doug’s ex-wife, has not been interviewed or spoken up in the midst of all of this. Surely she could add some beneficial information about Doug and the Divorce. Any thoughts on that?
Yes. I’ll bet she had to sign an NDA as part of her divorce.
Didn’t Lisa Weiss die a few months ago? Or have I confused her for someone else?
Lisa Weiss apparently signed a non-disclosure statement, Doug divorced her two months after Marcus died. Joni and Doug hooked up when? They dated secretly and were married shortly after one year of Marcus’ death. Jimmy Evans in my opinion is an evil man. They way he talks to Jonathan and Suzy is disgraceful. He’s right out of the false church doctrine. Joni has used profanity often and is someone that appears to be the one who is in the “witchcraft” rebellion herself–not Suzy or Jonathan!! Pastor Jimmy Evans reminded Jonathan and Suzy that this had nothing to do with their (Holy Spirit) spiritual leading–they were to submit to Joni in all respects and that she speaks for God!!!!!! Hello!! What a crock! They have become very wicked people and those who listen to them had better seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance first because they are teaching blasphemy. People had better wake up and look at the reality of the arrogance and lies from Jimmy Evans! What a piece of work! I could not in good conscience speak well of Doug Weiss and Joni’s marriage either! But the dictator, so called pastor Jimmy Evans, is beyond reproach in his own opinion. WHY DON’T WE HEAR FROM LISA WEISS??? THEY HAVE DEMEANED HER AND ACCUSED HER OF “ABANDONMENT” WHICH GAVE DOUG THE RIGHT TO DIVORCE HER AFTER 30 YEARS OF MARRIAGE! LOOK AT THE WHOLE PICTURE! AND LOOK AT WHO JONI REALLY IS!
The Bible says that a man shall leave his father and mother and cling to his wife, and they will be one body.
It seems to me that Jimmy Evans is saying to the husband, that he should cling to his Mother, who is God-like figure, and loose the tie with his wife, because she is challenging God-like position of the Mother. Therefore the wife is rebelious and evil.
What kind of marriage counselor is he?
The marriage is the source of all this. It’s biblically unsound. Jimmy and Joni aren’t wrong in this meeting in one regard. They are giving sound and right teaching on submission. Our employers are the final authority in the workplace. If we can’t submit then we should leave. The problem is that they’re trying to apply truth to a shaky foundation of an illegitimate marriage and that’s where it all crumbles. Their foul language only bolsters the legitimacy of Jonathan and Suzy’s claims. Telling him he’s a bad leader and that he’s a bad representation of his father is below the belt and is not a good look. I’m sure there is a ton of frustration but everyone should keep in mind only one party knows there is a recorder present. They both have marks against them and valid points. Suzy comes across as disrespectful as well.
Thank you, i was looking for a comment like yours that can point out that ONLY ONE PARTY KNOWS THAT THERE IS A RECODER… and also to point out Suzy’s disrespect… if she can be that disrespectful yet she knows there is a recorder, then she could be worse behind closed doors.. there may be truth to Suzy’s allegations but it may be also possible that she is the fuel behind the conflict. Daughters in laws tend to do that when mother and son are too close
A few things:
1. If a crime of this nature has been committed and reported to the proper authorities, a full investigation should be made. Did this happen??
2. Is there any concrete evidence a crime was committed? Any witnesses? Any proof whatsoever of the allegations?
3. Doug could solve this easily…simply tell Joni not to air viewer comments praising or sanctioning him or their marriage. It isn’t needed. A bit of humility would go a long way.
4. Did Jonathan and Suzy seek spiritual counsel? Did they ask for a meeting with Jimmy Evans? Jimmy Evans got no where. He has zero influence on Johnathan and Suzy. They aren’t receptive to him in the slightest.
5. It’s “Submit” or else. When you issue this kind of ultimatum, you must be prepared for a bad ending.
6. Jonathan and Suzy must follow Joni’s instructions even if they personally disagree. UNLESS… they have personal knowledge (not suspicion ) of wrong doing or it violates a biblical principle.
Daystar has been guilty of spiritual abuse since it’s inception, and I hope that this is God finally bringing all of their wickedness to the Light so that this network gets shutdown for good. All of the prosperity preaching and word of faith teachers, it ALL needs to go.
I don’t understand why the comment needs to be read. I believe actions would speak louder from internal family members more than a viewer would ever know.
I agree. As I listened to her and the Jimmy guy say over and over, “Is this the hill you’re going to die on?” I was thinking that it was more likely the hill that JONI was choosing to die on. Her need for validation of self trampling on her sons convictions.
While it is evident that her grip on him is strong, and hearing him trying to show her immense respect in spite of her disregard of his concerns, I can see his strong desire to be faithful to God. He needs our prayers for strength and wisdom to honor and seek the favor of God rather than man (in this case, mother.)
The laudatory comment about Doug that Joni was trying to force Jonathan and Suzy to read – I doubt it was written by a viewer. Same as the unnamed pastor she quotes as supporting her. If he exists then I hope he comes out of the shadows. Until then I’m guessing Joni for the former and Jimmy Evans for the latter.
Speaking of Jimmy Evans, why was he in this meeting? He was hot headed, didn’t like to have questions asked, and interrupted Jonathan and Suzy. He’s not in the family and he made the situation worse.
Secret recordings tell of premeditated entrapment. When a Mother trusts a son to give him access to all of her money means she will always be absolutely real with him and trusts him with her life. Her mistake: she thought he was spiritually mature. She thought he understood authority and biblical teachings and once told, she mistakenly thought they would obey God’s word. God’s ways aren’t man’s ways. She thought he would submit to biblical principles. It never even occurred to her that her own son would not protect her and the ministry. That he would reveal through recordings intimate conversations between family members. What a cruel realization that her “enemy would be in her own household” The one she loved and trusted. You could hear in the recording Joni didn’t believe for a minute the accusation against Pete. Remember she didn’t know she was being recorded and acted in a very real way. On the other hand you can hear as well how Suzie exaggerates the slang Joni used, referring to Suzie’s domineering response to her husband staring him down while he tries to answer the question. Was Suzie’s outrage manufactured because they knew they were recording it? As well as the “Joni is god to you at Day Star” comment, they made a point to exaggerate it. They knew what they were doing also repeatedly asking Joni for specific names of pastors that sided with her so it could all be recorded. If they think that recording makes Jomi look bad it does the opposite. It exposes their rebellion and disrespect for authority.
The sick and perverted way that Joni and Jimmy twisted scripture in this conversation in an attempt to force Jonathan and Suzy to bend to do her will instead of God’s, is completely out of order. Praise God for this young couple who refused to be backed into a corner. It is ALWAYS better to obey God than man.
This is a terribly sad situation. May truth be revealed and relationships restored! I listened to the whole one hour and 35 minute audio and the message is clear: Jonathan and Suzy think they know best and refuse to submit to their employer, who in this case is Jonathan’s mother. Jimmy refused to let them off the hook. HUGE respect for both Jimmy and Joni. There is nothing even mentioned about sexual abuse at this point. It’s all about the marriage that they refuse to honor. Roys Report, not a fan of the twisting and sensationalizing for a story.
I agree, Vicki. I don’t like Jimmy’s term that “Joni is the voice of God,” or Joni’s cussing, but this is an employee – employer situation. (Jonathan was careful with his wording because he was recording this.)
Joni and Jimmy are correct, though, in their overall synopsis of how a business or ministry must work. The boss gets the final say. If you can’t submit to the boss, then you simply need to leave. It is disappointing that this story is being twisted to more than that.
Vicki, you need to do a bit more research. First off , Jonathan is on the board and legally part of the oversight of Daystar. Joni was demanding they read on air positive things about her adulterous marriage to Doug and they refused so she blackmailed them with their jobs. Jonathon and his wife clearly believe Marcus and Joni clearly covered up a sex crime against their own grandchild . Now a criminal investigation has been reopened. Joni is not biblically “ the voice of God to anyone” ,that is false teaching and Jimmy is a false teacher willing to distort the Word of God for money. Daystar is not a church and the evidence is clear neither Joni , Doug or Jimmy meet the biblical qualifications of elder. The Words of Jesus on remarriage of divorced believers is clear. Joni is an adulteress according to scripture. Doug divorced yet another wife and quickly married Joni. This is clearly serious sin and NOT of God. Jonathan is correct and biblical sound on that. The Word of God clearly tells us that persons that commit adultery will not inherit the Kingdom of God . This is a serious issue as currently Joni and Doug are headed to an eternity in Hell. Daystar is not a legitimate ministry that Christians should support or watch and Joni, Doug and Jimmy aren’t legitimate ministers. They are wolves in sheep‘a clothes driven by money NOT true ministry. That is obvious . The Julie Roy’s staff researchers do their job well and report the proven facts or term them allegations where appropriate. Now Daystar is threatening to sue Christians ( forbidden in scripture by the way ) to silence their critics. Is that a sign of honesty and truthfulness ? Honest men never have to silence anyone by misusing the legal system.
What if all of the facts we know about this we’re the same except that Joni had married a woman? Would there be any room for her employees to have a personal convictions that prevented them from reading a viewer letter of support over the air?
Regardless, this is not just a boss , worker situation. This is a family running a family ministry., if any allegations of abuse happen it must be handled appropriately , not dealt with and hidden. Asking a son to sign a NDA or lose your job is blackmail. Divorcing your wife to quickly marry another women is adultery. It’s a sin and how does Jimmy Evans come in like the bible police and re write the bible to suit what Joni Lamb wants to do and make it right. Hypocrisy ,and about time this is all called out. I personally don’t think she is fit for office anymore. She has disqualified herself. Jonathon should take his rightful place in running Daystar under God.
I sort of agree that they should not put their two cents in on their marriage. They waited a respectable amount of time , they did stuff the right way. It’s not their place. I think Suzy and Jonathan are very sweet, good ppl though. I don’t really think this interview is bad although I haven’t finished it yet. It puts stress on Joni’s marriage. Plus , once someone is married . That’s it. You don’t get divorced unless there’s abuse or cheating . So , I see where they are coming from. I do stand with Jon and Suzy regarding their daughter. And if Jonathan and Suzy read this, I hope they know I am not trying to be offensive . I know they have been through a lot and I am praying for them. I think they are wonderful , loving peoples.
It seems Joni is coming across in the audio like Athaliah in 2nd Kings. Doing whatever it take to keep her power.
Hey Julie Roys, did you notice in the long audio recording @1:05:17 where Jimmy Evans claimed God-fearing muckrakers like you shouldn’t be doing your job (to please Christ)? He completely ignored Eph 5:11b by telling Johnathan Lamb “…there’s no position of watchman in God’s church, that was Old Testament.” Link: https://youtu.be/H4a23HS7qu0&t=3917
I Really like how those verses read in The Message:
Eph 8-10 – “You groped your way through that murk once, but no longer. You’re out in the open now. The bright light of Christ makes your way plain. So no more stumbling around. Get on with it! The good, the right, the true—these are the actions appropriate for daylight hours. Figure out what will please Christ, and then do it.”
Eph 11-16 – “Don’t waste your time on useless work, mere busywork, the barren pursuits of darkness. Expose these things for the sham they are. It’s a scandal when people waste their lives on things they must do in the darkness where no one will see. Rip the cover off those frauds and see how attractive they look in the light of Christ.”
“Wake up from your sleep,
Climb out of your coffins;
Christ will show you the light!”
“So watch your step. Use your head. Make the most of every chance you get. These are desperate times!”
Keep ripping the cover off those Frauds!
