Time to learn about malignant narcissists. On stage they put on a big show to impress people, but behind closed doors they are their true selves. Their toxic, they gaslight, their rude, they lie, they will steal. No wonder Jesus called such religious hypocrites as basically white-washed septic tanks. They polish their exterior image but inside they are just vile people that you do not want to be anywhere near. We Christians are so easily deceived when we go looking for the best show in town. We get a show alright instead of reality. Then we get shocked by the reality because we were looking for a good show instead of reality in the first place.
Whoa, not so fast. There is so much we don’t know here. And to post this on social media is beyond the pale. I don’t know whether or not Kirk Franklin’s son is a Christian, but, if he is, this is just not Christlike in any way. Recording a phone call probably without his father’s knowledge is taking matters into his own hands. If we are all honest with ourselves, we have all had such moments or the potential to have them as we are all sinners. May the Lord restore and have victory over this situation. Satan is having a ball here.
Amy, Satan is having a ball with you making excuses for bad behavior and anti-Orthopraxy. I know some good fathers with troubled adult children. You could record them at any time dealing with their children and they do not EVER talk like this so this could not ever happen. They do not use God’s name as a curse word while they hurl insults and curses at their own flesh and blood. This mode of communication is textbook malignant narcissist not humble Christian in a trial with their children.
What does the Bible say? “Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.” Col. 3:21
“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.” Eph. 6:4
Paul’s instructions are so important that he repeated them to two different churches. I do not know if you are a parent, but the thought occurred to me that some reading here are parents and may have at some time talked to their own children like this. The trouble lies with them when they do. Love is not arrogant or rude, it is not boastful or proud… you should know the rest of the verse, Finish the sentence in your mind and remember to be a Christian is to actually do these things, not to get up on some stage and entertain people with an act due to living a double life. We are not called to look like Christ on the stage and the Devil at home when the mic and camera is off. This man just had these turned on at an unguarded moment so the world could see who he really is.
Amen, Mrs. Jesperson. We have not “all had such moments”… Of course there is always the potential to sin…but we do not indulge the flesh. And when we fall, we repent…not make excuses.
I’m so weary of Christians making excuses for sinful behavior. Want to know why we have the Ravis, the Ramseys, and the MacArthurs? Why the vast majority of White Evangelicals can cheer on a President Trump? Because the church doesn’t even recognize sin anymore much less discipline it.

I am so fed up with people coming on comments sections quoting no Scripture and making excuses for behavior which I KNOW (because I lived among them for 40 years) most lost people would be ashamed of.
If my behavior didn’t match what I believe and wasn’t a representation of regeneration i.e CONVERSION i.e TRANSFORMATION i.e the Holy Spirit indwelling then not only would I not be a “Christian” public figure but I wouldn’t be commenting on Christian websites!
We don’t live double lives any more if we’re born of the Spirit i.e true Christians (John 1:12-13, Romans 8:9). That’s symptomatic of our PAST life as a lost person which was full of moments where we thought “I hope/I’m so glad nobody else will see/hear this”.
Rages and vile cussing (obviously his cussing wasn’t an exception! You don’t wake up one day and use that language!) are what those who WON’T inherit the kingdom are prone to: that is what Scripture says: Galatians 5:20-21

Agree with you @Amy Snider. This son does this every so often. I question his motives and if there may be some mental health issues going on here. He was claiming at one point his father wanted to kill him. Then he’ll delete everything he posted and disappear for a while and come back again with more of the same at a later date. His grievances seem to be that he’s been cut off from contact with the rest of the family, cut off from the family home, and cut off from financial resources. Franklin should be ashamed and repent of allowing his buttons to be pushed to the point where he is swearing, using God’s name in vain, and threatening violence. That is not appropriate behavior for someone claiming to be a minister of the Lord, even one who ministers through music. It’s also troubling to hear the woman laughing in the background like any of this was funny. These people all need to go into deep prayer, repentance, and Godly counseling or go their separate ways.

Preach it Mr. Jesperson. At least the narcissists one meets outside of the ‘church’ one can usually be a bit guarded about. It’s not as easy in church because one expects a more wholesome atmosphere there, which sometimes is not the case.
So sad. Agree to family therapy or stop this relationship before it gets physical. Both were screaming and cussing at each other.
First of all this father and son are no different than any other family that has had relational issues. The problem is this should have not been put on the public stage. Who wins here? No one. The father loses because of course it will do some damage to his public persona. He loses because now what is private matters is now aired embarrassingly for all to see. The son loses because clearly he shows zero respect and 100% hurt that obviously has been building for years. . Did he (the son) swear-does he make himself feel better that he didn’t swear in it? Maybe he started recording AFTER he already said his piece which may or may not have included language. The language is raw but honestly the worse part is that each side is hurting and this has done nothing to make this relationship better. Just like the former royals airing their dirty laundry the other night-I’m sad for the breakdown in these relationships and it shows us all that they are no different than us “normals”.
So all fathers and sons cuss at each other and degrade each other and use racist terms to describe each other? Really? And all of this should be shoved under the rug so that no one else knows about it? Which Bible do you read? I come from a dysfunctional family and yet I never heard anyone in my family talk like this to anyone else in the family as adults! I think your bar is set way too low. Perhaps this is normal in your family, but I sure hope you do not talk to your children this way if you have them.
Oh and about our God nothing we say and do will remain private forever: “But there is nothing [so carefully] concealed that it will not be revealed, nor so hidden that it will not be made known. It is horrifying to see WHO we really are as opposed to WHO we pretend to be.

Oh it’s always that line…
By saying that, they’re saying to the world that Jesus has no power. ON THE CONTRARY! Read Ephesians 2:1-5, Galatians 5:24, 2 Corinthians 5:17, 1st John 3:7 etc. The Good News is about resurrection and transformation!
Jesus didn’t die so we’d remain the same if not WORSE than the world, slaves to the flesh and sin! Those truly saved are “free INDEED” (John 8:34-36).
Things Jesus never said: “He disrespected me!” Oh my goodness. We can only ever “follow in Jesus’s footsteps” (1 Peter 2:21-22) by first repenting in a Godly manner (2 Corinthians 7) of our whole selves! Turning fully from pride and self-will. And forsaking sin (2 Timothy 2:19b).
ALL our pride must die. I called myself a “believer” for 4 decades before I came to full repentance: and how humbling that is. It breaks us so we become fully submitted and can thus be made NEW (2 Corinthians 5:17).
We cannot just make a mental assent to the gospel and then say we’re “Christian”. Being a Christian is being born of the Spirit by definition (John 1:12-13, Romans 8:9).
Anyone using this language once clearly is in the HABIT of using it. Using that language and raging because someone “disrespected” us should be in the PAST i.e our old prideful, carnal self.
I would say to anyone, especially those in position of influence (which nobody forced on them) to go to the wilderness (the literal wilderness or mostly alone at home with the Bible for company and NO carnal entertainment and distractions) for months or as long as it takes to KNOW for sure that Jesus indwells you (2 Corinthians 13:5) through the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-17, Romans 8:9).
Here’s the litmus test:
“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts” (Galatians 5:19-24)
The son has issued a new statement which said, “Plz do not crucify my father. I am not here to bash him across the board. I didn’t even cuss in the recording. Why do ppl “assume” I did something to deserve verbal abuse. I just said what he said back to me. my father has been speaking very mean & manipulatively to me for 15 years now. My voice will be heard. I forgive him for the past pain,” he wrote in part.”
One possibility is that the son is out of drug money and needs as many high-paying interviews as possible to refill his stash asap.
= Why announce this at all? And why now, if it’s been going on for 15 years, as he claims?
AND…let’s all be praying for healing for everyone involved in this, and for all to fully cooperate with family therapy, all via God’s great power and guiding.
Why cast doubt on his motives and insinuate he’s a drug addict looking to score? Is it because he’s a young black man with dreadlocks and fits a stereotype running around in your head?
Before asking for charity, look in the mirror first.

We don’t know the full story. We have one side of the story. It is easy to judge and come to conclusions. It’s as if you think if a person is a Christian that he won’t have anger issues or deep rooted family dysfunction. Quoting Scripture is no help, and comes across as self righteous. I have said things when I was angry that I would be embarrassed about. I am much better, but some areas are not as sanctified as others. He’s a musician. It’s known that a lot of men struggle with anger issues. It is obvious that what he did was very unchristian, but family usually knows how to push the right buttons, especially your kids, whether they are 13 or 30. I am actually surprised at some of you because in the past you have been more level-headed.

It baffles me why some of us are so quick to come to conclusions and judgments when they don’t know the whole story, and don’t have a clue, but just quote hand selected Bible verses “they know” applies to this man…Wow!
We are called to make righteous judgments and to actually try to grown in Christlikeness. Making excuses for celebrity hypocrites is what us “overly critical people here” see so much of. I suppose you two would say bad things about John the Baptist calling people like these as snakes, and Jesus himself who did the same. There is way too much worthless cheap grace being thrown around! And one thing I know for sure is that our culture has totally lost the fear of God. Jesus praised the prophets of old for calling out obvious sins, while people here condemn the wrong people. We are not the ones cursing the name of God and our own children nor making racist slurs so please give us a break…
Yes, we are to make a “righteous” judgement, so in listening to the recording of what he said to his son, we can say, and agree, that what he said to him was sinful, and wrong, because that’s all we know based on the recording, but to make these sweeping judgements about his person is foolish.

It may be the case with him, or it may not be. How do YOU know? Did his wife tell you? His parents? His other children? His pastor, or, are you basing this off of this tape recording? In other words, YOU DON’T KNOW HIM! So, for you to come out slinging Bible verses at someone you have no clue about is just wrong.

I was sick and sad for both. I am a work in process. Grateful to have not had this exact situation but I have struggled w anger issues my whole life. The war is already won- the battle is all thats left to fight. Be the rightous one to judge or judge not lest you be judged- you choose. Im grieved for those w struggles and praying. His mercies are new every morning- thank God.
Relationship to God FIRST, relationship to family SECOND, relationship to career and others THIRD. Any other order brings chaos and confusion from the enemy who seeks to, “kill, steal, and destroy” especially the first two…

I live just outside the CCM Mecca of Nashville and worked in the music biz. CCM behind the scenes and up top is no different than any other business. Sadly most of the artist live just like any other rock star. Every big “Christian” business, books, music, art etc…is just marketing and as corrupt as any non religious entity.
This reminds me of an old quote from a man who, back in 1990, had a home recording studio that made a 10 best list in a industry magazine. “There is nothing Christian about the Christian music business. It is all business!” And yet this man does not have clean hands either. He was known back then to show up drunk sometimes for the worship band on Sundays. Now he loves multi-millionaire “evangelists” who drive around some extraordinary expensive cars who preach a gospel that the Apostle Paul calls a heresy in Romans 6. And he has “been engaged” to someone I have known for even longer for like 7 years now. I also have known another couple who have done this lying to people about their sexual activities with someone over a very long period of time. Pretending that they will have a commitment when there actually is none and never any planned wedding date.
I remember Kirk was very traumatised by 9 / 11. “Christianity” has been led by legalistic Pat Robertson / Oral Roberts types, our own souls have been hollowed out by the ones who told us to look to them because our gift wasn’t good enough.
The son is at the age he would start to react, it’s that simple. I hear of people who can’t turn the microphones off on those dang contraptions.
