‘The Chosen’ Delays Season 4 Streaming Release Due to ‘Legal Matters’

Creator of The Chosen, the hit Gospel-inspired TV series, producer Dallas Jenkins took to social media over the weekend to share that the free steaming release of Season 4 of the show will be delayed.

“I know that it feels disappointing,” said Jenkins in a livestreamed video. “(But) we’re going to have a family chat. There is a lot to discuss.”

Resolving these issues, he says, are of vital importance to the future of the company and the show.

“You always come first. The vast majority of the decisions we make are designed with you in mind. We always want to get you things as fast as possible. (But) this is the bad news part of what I’m delivering,” he said. “We cannot release Season 4 to streaming now. There will be a delay, a delay longer than we anticipated and hoped for.”

Jenkins stated that there are some unspecified “legal matters” that they are currently dealing with. “The goal is to have them resolved so that we can, long-term and short-term, better serve you, ensure the show remains free forever and gets to over a billion people, and also allows us to be sustainable forever.”

Unlike other shows, El elegido doesn’t have a studio or a network with billions of dollars at their disposal that they can share or dip into, noted Jenkins.

He referred to the Come and See Foundation, a nonprofit fundado in October 2022 by veterans of Christian publishing, retailing and Bible translation, which has become a primary means of funding the series.

“For our show to be free, and for Come & See, the non-profit organization that helps contribute to the production and the translation of the show, for them to translate it into thousands of languages and market it around the world, it costs tens of millions of dollars minimum every year,” said Jenkins.

He says although their costs are much lower than most projects. It is still very expensive, which is why they have had to come up with new ways to sustain what they’re doing, including releasing the show in theatres.

“A movie released to theatres makes so much more in one month than we do in a year,” said Jenkins. “We have three more seasons left. It is extremely expensive to be free. Without us getting creative. Without us figuring out ways to generate income so we can be sustainable and profit and have a career, our previous path wasn’t proving to be sustainable.”

Until things have been resolved, Jenkins says they will be bringing Season 4 to churches and prisons starting March 13. Details have been released online.

Season 4 will also be extended in some theatres across North America.A full list of theatres can be found aquí.

Not one mention of God. They are creating, making decisions for you, and you alone.

The bottom line is they are looking for you to send them money, without saying they want you to send them money, plus how to generate income through a theatrical release.

    1. That explains why the JMD Home Church people are bending over backwards defending the show, and when confronted with Jenkins saying they use about 5% of the gospel, they claim Jenkins is barely involved, or it doesn’t matter.

  2. Why should we fund something that plays fast and loose with the Bible? Jenkins states that not everything JEsus did was in the Bible. Sure, it doesn’t talk about every meal He had. But the real question: why do you rewrite the 5%, what is plainly in the text? Why should we trust you to get the 95% right when you can’t get the 5% that is written down accurate? And why should we fund something that is conforming the Bible to your own interpretation of Scripture that plays fast and loose with the details? (Does he not know our God is a God of details, orchestrating even the smallest details, as we clearly see in all the prophecies regarding Christ’s death and resurrection?) In my view, Jenkins is not one to be trusted, as he doesn’t even make an attempt to follow what Scripture says.

  3. People who identify as “Christian” and ask for your money are all hirelings. Just keep that in mind. It’s not about God at all, or living a self sacrificing life. It’s about business. Not just for the chosen crew but any other person who says they can’t do anything unless you send money. Of course they can’t. They need to feed off of you. They are not feeding on Christ whose meat and drink was to do his Father’s will. Jesus’ last earthly act being the cross, as savior. That being his last earthly act–until he comes again as judge. Where will you and I be standing then? With the hirelings who entertained us and ticked out ears? or alone with Jesus, busy living out his word.

  4. Every church, para church ministry and missionary I have ever known has asked for money. Why should this commercial production be any different? It had to be enormously expensive to produce these episodes.

  5. The Chosen is expensive to produce. They chose a business model to release it free and let it reach a billion people.

Charging $5 to watch it may make sense, even the poorest people in third world countries could manage that in 2024.

It’s Dallas’ dilemma to solve. If he wants it free there are obvious financial consequences to ponder.

There is nothing to solve according to Box Office Mojo, they are making plenty of money in their theatrical run:

      The Chosen: S4 Episodes 1-3

      Triple bill including:

      Episode #4.1 | Episode #4.2 | Episode #4.3

      Box office
      The Chosen: S4 Episodes 1-3

      Domestic
      Grosses
      Domestic (97.7%)
      $13,907,439

      International (2.3%)
      $326,931

      Worldwide
      $14,234,370

  6. I consider The Chosen to be fan fiction. In that regard, I enjoy it. The first season was incredible. The second season less so, and I have yet to get through the third, sadly. It has always been crowd funded, as I understand, and for anyone who’s ever been involved in some sort of legal dispute, you cannot discuss all the details in its duration. It will be interesting to see what comes of all this.

  7. It’s amazing how Christians complain there isn’t enough clean/Christian entertainment, but when there is, we criticize it to death and scoff if it isn’t free. Are these production companies supposed to donate millions of dollars of time and equipment – and not pay a cent to their staff or vendors? Oh wait, I guess they are supposed to be working for free too.
I understand why the entertainment industry by and large steers clear of us.
